16. Studies of the role of complement factor H in hemolytic uremic syndrome
Abstract : Factor H is the main fluid phase regulator of the alternative pathway of complement. Factor H acts as a co-factor for factor I-mediated C3b degradation, inhibits the formation of the C3bBb convertase and accelerates its decay. By discriminating between host and foreign cells, factor H inhibits complement-mediated injury to host cells. READ MORE

17. Modulating Organ Dysfunction in Experimental Septic Shock : Effects of Aminoglycosides, Antiendotoxin Measures and Endotoxin Tolerance
Abstract : Sepsis is a common diagnose in the intensive care population, burdened with a high mortality. The systemic inflammatory reaction underlying the development of septic organ dysfunction can be modeled using Gram-negative bacterial lipopolysaccharide, endotoxin. READ MORE

18. Aspects of bleeding complications and hemostasis at central line insertion and mild induced hypothermia
Abstract : Bleeding complications range from 0.5 to 1.6% in connection with central venous catheter insertions but are more frequent in patients with bone marrow failure and severe thrombocytopenia. Although supportive evidence is scarce, prophylactic platelet transfusion is sometimes performed in these patients before catheter insertion. READ MORE

However, substantial improvements in response rate andprogression-free survival have been reported in many studies. READ MORE

20. Role of the CD47/SIRPα-interaction in regulation of macrophage phagocytosis
Abstract : CD47 is a cell surface glycoprotein that is expressed by virtually all cells in the body. Binding of CD47 to the macrophage receptor Signal Regulatory Protein alpha (SIRPα) yields an inhibitory signal that counteracts phagocytosis. READ MORE
