  1. 16. Studies of the role of complement factor H in hemolytic uremic syndrome

    Author : Fariba Vaziri Sani; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatri; Pediatrics; Hemolytic uremic syndrome; complement system; factor H;

    Abstract : Factor H is the main fluid phase regulator of the alternative pathway of complement. Factor H acts as a co-factor for factor I-mediated C3b degradation, inhibits the formation of the C3bBb convertase and accelerates its decay. By discriminating between host and foreign cells, factor H inhibits complement-mediated injury to host cells. READ MORE

  2. 17. Modulating Organ Dysfunction in Experimental Septic Shock : Effects of Aminoglycosides, Antiendotoxin Measures and Endotoxin Tolerance

    Author : Markus Castegren; Jan Sjölin; Claes Frostell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lipopolysaccharide; animal model; pig; tobramycin; endotoxin elimination; immunoparalysis; secondary sepsis; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Abstract : Sepsis is a common diagnose in the intensive care population, burdened with a high mortality. The systemic inflammatory reaction underlying the development of septic organ dysfunction can be modeled using Gram-negative bacterial lipopolysaccharide, endotoxin. READ MORE

  3. 18. Aspects of bleeding complications and hemostasis at central line insertion and mild induced hypothermia

    Author : Thomas Kander; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Central venous catheter. Coagulation. Bleeding complications. Platelets. Mild induced hypothermia. Point of care coagulation tests. Flow cytometry.;

    Abstract : Bleeding complications range from 0.5 to 1.6% in connection with central venous catheter insertions but are more frequent in patients with bone marrow failure and severe thrombocytopenia. Although supportive evidence is scarce, prophylactic platelet transfusion is sometimes performed in these patients before catheter insertion. READ MORE

  4. 19. Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy of Ovarian Cancer

    Author : Henric Malmström; Kamma Berthelsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Ovarian cancer is still the most common cause of death among gynecologic malignancies in spite of the fact that newer and more effective drugs and/or administration techniques have been developed in the last decade. However, substantial improvements in response rate andprogression-free survival have been reported in many studies. READ MORE

  5. 20. Role of the CD47/SIRPα-interaction in regulation of macrophage phagocytosis

    Author : Mattias Olsson; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Hans Tapper; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; immunology; cell biology; Histology; Histologi;

    Abstract : CD47 is a cell surface glycoprotein that is expressed by virtually all cells in the body. Binding of CD47 to the macrophage receptor Signal Regulatory Protein alpha (SIRPα) yields an inhibitory signal that counteracts phagocytosis. READ MORE
