  1. 1. Characterisation of Urban Rainfall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    Author : Mohamed Nor bin Desa Mohamed; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; velocity; vector; monsoon; Malaysia; thunderstorm; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Abstract : Rainfall characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are studied in space and time; on a large scale, 550 km2, and long term scale to find out the monsoon influence, and on urban basin scale, 23 km2, to determine dynamic properties of rainfalls and spatial correlations, and on a point scale to determine the probabilities of very high rain intensities. The importance of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall was investigated applying cross correlation on long term historical rainfalls from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mechanisms for the Influence from Ice Nucleus Aerosols on Clouds and their Indirect Effects: Cloud Modelling

    Author : Deepak Waman; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; Radiation; Ice Nuclei; Primary Biological Aerosol Particles; Ice particles; Secondary ice; primary ice; Aerosol particles; thunderstorm;

    Abstract : The role of multiple groups of primary biological aerosol particles (PBAPs) as ice nucleating particles (INPs), and of ice formation processes such as time-dependent freezing of various INPs, and various secondary ice production(SIP) mechanisms in overall ice concentration has been evaluated in a range of cloud systems by simulating them numerically with the state-of-the-art ‘Aerosol-Cloud’ (AC) model in a 3D mesoscale domain. Also, the mechanismsof aerosol indirect effects (AIEs) arising from anthropogenic INPs, and the responses to these AIEs from time-dependent INP freezing and SIP processes are investigated in the simulated clouds. 3. 3. The Effects of Lightning on Low Voltage Power Networks

    Author : Raul Montaño; Vernon Cooray; Marcos Rubinstein; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; Lightning induced effects; Lightning Electromagnetic fields; Electromagnetic Compatibility EMC ; Surge Protective Devices SPDs ; Low voltage power networks; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : The present society is highly dependant on complex electronics systems, which have a low damage threshold level. Therefore, there is a high risk of partial or total loss of the system’s electronics when they are exposed to a thunderstorm environment. READ MORE
