  1. 1. Thylakoid Membranes and Pancreatic Lipase/Colipase

    Author : Sinan Cem Emek; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CCK; Thylakoid Membranes; Colipse; Lipase;

    Abstract : Obesity is a major health problem in the world that increases the occurrence of type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The reason for obesity is a dysfunction in the regulation of energy balance. It has been shown that dietary fat induces satiety as long as this nutrient stays in the intestine. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the lateral organisation of the thylakoid membrane

    Author : Ravi Danielsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thylakoid membrane heterogeneity; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; Thylakoid structure; Phase partition; Thylakoid fractions;

    Abstract : In this work the lateral heterogeneity of the thylakoid membrane was investigated by quantifying the amount of photosystem I (PSI), photosystem II (PSII) and some PSII complexes and PSII proteins in different domains of the thylakoid. Grana, grana core, grana margins and stroma lamellae + end fractions were obtained by sonication and separation in a non-detergent, aqueous polymer two-phase system. READ MORE

  3. 3. Xanthophyll Cycle in the Light of Thylakoid Membrane Lipids - Membrane Packing, Curvature Elastic Stress and Enzyme Binding

    Author : Anna Szilagyi; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; steroider; Lipids; steroids; membranes; Lipider; enzymologi; HPLC; laurdan; fluorescence spectroscopy; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; curvature elastic stress; enzyme binding; thylakoid membrane; membrane fluidity; lipid packing; histidine; VDE; zeaxanthin; xanthophyll cycle; mebran;

    Abstract : The xanthophyll cycle involves the light-dependent and reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. The enzyme, violaxanthin de-epoxidase (VDE) catalyses the conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin, via the intermediate antheraxanthin. VDE is a membrane-hosted enzyme during its activity. 4. 4. Regulatory proteolysis of higher plant thylakoid membranes : the significance of protein degradation in light acclimation of the photosynthetic apparatus

    Author : Marika Lindahl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Although the acclimation of plants to light condition has been known and extensively described for many years the underlying mechanisms have remained largely unsolved. In this thesis I present new experimental data and a model for the mechanism behind acclimation of mature higher plants to increased light intensities. READ MORE

  5. 5. Microbial Electrochemical System: extracellular electron transfer from photosynthesis and respiration to electrode

    Author : Kamrul Hasan; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biological photovoltaics; electron transfer; electrode; Rhodobacter capslatus; thylakoid membranes; cyanobacteria; algae; photosynthesis; light; photocurrent; electrochemistry;

    Abstract : The electrochemical communication between microorganisms and electrodes has substantial implications both for basic understanding of biological electron transfer as well as in diverse applications, such as, microbial electrochemical system (MES), microbial biosensors and in production of valuable chemicals. In these systems the extracellular electron transfer (EET) from microbial metabolism to electrodes is restricted due to the insulated cellular exterior made of lipid structures. READ MORE
