  1. 1. Anatomical studies of hypothalamic thyrotropin-releasing hormone : implications for motivated states

    Author : Emilia Horjales-Araújo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The survival of every animal as an organism and species depends on three motivated states: ingestive, defensive and reproductive. Regulation of these states is coordinated by the hypothalamus through the coordination of three principal output pathways: behavioural, endocrine and autonomic. READ MORE

  2. 2. The influence of status epilepticus on adeno-pituitary hormone secretion in man : with special reference to prolactin

    Author : Ulla Lindbom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : epilepsy; status epilepticus; prolactin; growth hormone; cortisol; thyroidstimulating hormone TSH ; thyrotropin-releasing hormone TRH ; hypothalamic-pituitary axis;

    Abstract : Epileptic seizures as well as antiepileptic drugs (AED) may interfere with the hypothalamic pituitary axis (HPA) and have neuroendocrine effects. A transient increase of prolactin (PRL) and cortisol in serum after generalised tonic-clonic or complex partial seizures has been one of the most consistent findings, although absences and myoclonic seizures, as well as seizures of very short duration, do not seem to affect PRL levels. 3. 3. Regulation of gene transcription by the thyroid hormone receptors

    Author : Maria Nygård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Thyroid hormone receptors; T3; cell differentiation; gene regulation; E2F-1; Necdin; TRH; nTRE; RXR; NCoR; XAP-2;

    Abstract : Thyroid hormone (TH) has important effects on postnatal development as well as on adult metabolic homeostasis. TH meditates its effects through different isoforms of the thyroid hormone receptors (TRs) encoded by the TRalpha and TRbeta genes, respectively. TRs belong to the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hormonal regulation of the primate uterus : effects of hormone treatment and lifestyle intervention

    Author : Mariana Hulchiy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : endometrium;

    Abstract : The uterus is a major hormone-responsive reproductive organ in primates. Hormones promote their effect via different pathways. Receptors involved in steroid hormone, thyroid hormone and insulin signaling have been found in the endometrium. READ MORE

  5. 5. Spinal motoneurones and the bulbospinal serotonininergic system in aged rats with behavioral deficits

    Author : Hans Johnson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : aging; behavior; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridisation; motoneuron; CGRP; axotorny; GAP-43; neurotrophin receptors; degeneration; axon dystrophy; 5HT TRH; SP; 5HLkA; AADC; serotonintransporter protein; fluoxetine; L-5-HTP;

    Abstract : The expression of neuropeptides, growth-related proteins and neurotrophin receptors were studied in motoneurons of young adult rats and in aged rats with symptoms of neuromuscular incapacities. Also studied were aging-related changes in the descending serotoninergic (5HT) bulbospinal system which constitutes a major afferent pathway to spinal motoneurons. READ MORE
