11. Theoretical study of electronic structure and optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures
Abstract : In this thesis, the electronic structure and optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures are studied theoretically. Three types of nanostructures have been studied, silicon nanocrystals, free-standing III-V nanowires and free-standing GaAs/AlGaAs nanowire superlattices. READ MORE

12. Magnetic solotronics near the surface of a semiconductor and a topological insulator
Abstract : Technology where a solitary dopant acts as the active component of an opto-electronic device is an emerging field known as solotronics, and bears the promise to revolutionize the way in which information is stored, processed and transmitted. Magnetic doped semiconductors and in particular (Ga, Mn)As, the archetype of dilute magnetic semiconductors, and topological insulators (TIs), a new phase of quantum matter with unconventional characteristics, are two classes of quantum materials that have the potential to advance spin-electronics technology. 13. Solvable Topological Boundaries
Abstract : The hallmark of topological phases of matter is the presence of robust boundary states. In this dissertation, a formalism is developed with which analytical solutions for these states can be straightforwardly obtained by making use of destructive interference, which is naturally present in a large family of lattice models. 14. Effects of Spin-Orbit Interactions in Ferromagnetic Metal Nanoparticles
Abstract : This thesis is a theoretical investigation of the effects of spin-orbit (SO) interactions in ferromagnetic metal nano-particles. Part I of the thesis is devoted to an elementary introduction of the research field, including recent experimental advances which partly motivated the work presented here. READ MORE

15. Quantum mechanical models of nanomagnetism in transition metal clusters and diluted magnetic semiconductors
Abstract : This dissertation investigates nanomagnetism in small transition metal clusters and the diluted magnetic semiconductor (Ga,Mn)As. We derive quantum mechanical models aimed at a realistic description of the low energy physics in these systems. READ MORE
