  1. 1. Tilted Foils Nuclear Spin Polarization and Measurement with Coulomb Excitation

    Author : Hans Törnqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tilted; Foils; Polarization; Excitation; Coulomb; Nuclear; Spin;

    Abstract : Developing new experimental tools is essential to expand the possibilites of probing the structure of atomic nuclei. The better the currently known properties of nuclei can be manipulated, the more information can be extracted from data collected in nuclear reaction experiments. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tilted Foils Nuclear Spin Polarization at REX-ISOLDE

    Author : Hans Törnqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beta-NMR; ISOLDE; tilted foils; particle scattering; post-acceleration; REX-ISOLDE; nuclear spin polarization; HIE-ISOLDE;

    Abstract : This thesis will explain and summarize my work and involvement in experiments aimed at producing nuclear spin polarization of post-accelerated beams of ions with the tilted-foils technique at the REX-ISOLDE linear accelerator at CERN. Polarizing the nuclear spin of radioactive beams in particular may provide access to observables which may be difficult to obtain otherwise. READ MORE

  3. 3. Decay Properties and Hyperfine Interactions in Oriented Alpha-, Beta- and Gamma-emitting Nuclei

    Author : Mats Lindroos; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The hyperfine interaction has often been described as the bridge between atomic physics and nuclear physics. On the one hand it enables us to study important nuclear phenomena which only manifest themselves in the strong internal fields originating from the surrounding electrons and on the other hand it enables us to study properties of the atomic system or of condensed matter using nuclear probes. 4. 4. Experiments on Laser-Based Particle Acceleration : Beams of Energetic Electrons and Protons

    Author : Kristoffer Svensson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser; plasma; acceleration; electrons; protons; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Svensson;

    Abstract : This thesis describes experiments involving laser-plasma-based acceleration of electrons and protons, using the techniques of laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) and target normal sheath acceleration (TNSA). By using extremely high accelerating field strengths, up to the order of TV m-1, it is possible to reach high kinetic particle energies over very short distances. READ MORE
