  1. 1. The shear plate dowel joint : Research on a novel connection for heavy timber structures

    Author : Gustaf Larsson; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; timber connection; rubber foil; resilient bond line; single dowel; heavy timber structures;

    Abstract : An increased use of wood can reduce the environmental footprint of the building sector. In order to improve the competitiveness of heavy timber structures, the thesis presents a novel type of timber connection with a high degree of prefabrication. READ MORE

  2. 2. Moisture-related properties of modified timber - an experimental study

    Author : Hannah Epmeier; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : Scots pine; material properties; chemical modification; building components; timber; bending creep;

    Abstract : Wood has long traditions as a structural and building material. In those cases in which its natural features are not sufficient, chemical modification can eliminate some shortcomings. READ MORE

  3. 3. Connections for Timber-Framed Structures - Assembly Properties and Structural Behaviour

    Author : Dan Engström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; frames; nails; connections; structures; interaction; glue; assembly; timber; economy; semi-rigidity; adhesive; joints; splices;

    Abstract : By tradition, the design and development of connections has focused on the optimization of strength and stiffness. The subject of this thesis is the interaction between the assembly and structural properties of connections for timber-framed structures. READ MORE

  4. 4. Moisture-induced distortion in timber structures - examples based on partition walls

    Author : Magnus Bäckström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; gypsum wallboard; spiral grain angle; restraint; Norway spruce; Connection; twist; spring;

    Abstract : The shape of timber changes due to variations in moisture content (MC). In Scandinavia, producers normally dry timber to an MC of 18%. However, after the studs are built into the wall structure, for example, they may become distorted as a result of further drying in the structure. The final MC in a heated building in Scandinavia is about 8%. READ MORE

  5. 5. Shear walls for multi-storey timber buildings

    Author : Johan Vessby; Hilmer Riberholt; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multi-storey structures; timber engineering; wind stabilization; shear walls; cross-laminated timber wall panels; fasteners; connections; sheathing; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Wind loads acting on wooden building structures need to be dealt with adequately in order to ensure that neither the serviceability limit state nor the ultimate limit state is exceeded. For the structural designer of tall buildings, avoiding the possibly serious consequences of heavy wind loading while taking account at the same time of the effects of gravitation can be a real challenge.
