6. Development of life cycle cost model and analyses for railway switches and crossings
Abstract : Infrastructure managers need to have a safe and available infrastructure, so that train operators can deliver a transport product at an affordable price. In the future, as traffic volume increases, higher utilisation of the existing capacity, less time for maintenance and fewer unplanned interruptions will be critical for meeting the ever increasing need of transport capacity. 7. Divide and Conquer: Distributed Optimization and Robustness Analysis
Abstract : As control of large-scale complex systems has become more and more prevalent within control, so has the need for analyzing such controlled systems. This is particularly due to the fact that many of the control design approaches tend to neglect intricacies in such systems, e.g. READ MORE

8. The value of evaluating and implementing pharmaceuticals
Abstract : Pharmaceuticals are a central part of high-quality health care and a resource for improving population health. However, high prices set by private companies who develop and own the rights to new pharmaceuticals question the value that they contribute to the health care system. READ MORE

9. Development and evaluation of methods for control of multiple-input multiple output systems
Abstract : In control, the most common type of system is the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, where the same input may affect multiple outputs, or conversely, the same output is affected by multiple inputs. In this thesis two methods for controlling MIMO systems are examined, namely linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control and decentralized control, and some of the difficulties associated with them. 10. Punctuality and railway maintenance
Abstract : Long and frequent train delays, striking many periodically make headlines. The question is raised: what might be done about it? The on-going deregulation of the Swedish railway, with more actors entering the market, contributes to the question's topicality. In this thesis, problems and symptoms concerning punctuality are described and analysed. READ MORE
