    Abstract : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 2. 2. Semiconductor Quantum Dots Studied by Time-Resolved Luminescence Techniques

    Author : Jörg Siegert; KTH; []
    Keywords : quantum dots; semiconductors; photoluminescence; time-resolved;

    Abstract : In this thesis time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopyis presented as a powerful tool to study the carrier dynamicsin various self-assembled quantum dot (QD) structures, whichare potentially attractive for device applications. The experiments reveal the impact of proton irradiation onInGaAs QDs and comparable quantum wells. READ MORE

  3. 3. Time Resolved Diffraction Studies of Structural Changes in Sensory Rhodopsin

    Author : Robert Bosman; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : Rhodopsin; SRII; SRII-HtrII; Time-resolved crystallography; Time-resolved wide angle x-ray scattering; TR-X; TR-WAXS; Serial crystallography;

    Abstract : Responding to different light conditions is an essential process for many organisms on earth. Unicellular organisms are no exception to this and mechanisms for controlling cellular movement must often be sensitive to light. READ MORE

  4. 4. Time-resolved plasmonics in designed nanostructures

    Author : Eleonora Lorek; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasmon; Nanostructure fabrication; High-order harmonic generation; Photoemission electron microscopy; Focused ion beam; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Lorek;

    Abstract : A metal nanoparticle can be considered as consisting of a base of positive ion cores and a sea of free electrons. When the free electrons are displaced, for example, by an incident electric field, a restoring force acts on the electrons. The electrons may then oscillate back and forth until equilibrium is reached. READ MORE

  5. 5. Acoustic, Thermal and Non-thermal Dynamics in Condensed Matter Studied by Time-Resolved X-ray Diffraction

    Author : Carl Ekström; Atomfysik; []

    Abstract : The method of using short laser and X-ray pulses to investigate dynamics in materials (pump-probe) has been used for several decades. This thesis presents work that was carried out using these sources of light to reveal acoustic, thermal and non-thermal dynamics. READ MORE
