1. Targeted Long-read Sequencing : Development and Applications in Medical Genetics
Abstract : Targeted sequencing has the advantage of providing pinpointed DNA information, while costs and data-analysis efforts are reduced. If targeted sequencing is combined with single molecule long-read sequencing, it can become a powerful tool to investigate genomic regions traditionally difficult using the predominantly used short-read sequencing platforms, including repetitive regions and large structural variants. 2. Signaling determinants in Trojan horse-mediated dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii
Abstract : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects all warm-blooded vertebrates including one third of the global human population. While infection is typically asymptomatic in healthy human hosts, reactivated and acute infection in immunosuppressed or immunecompromised individuals can lead to lethal toxoplasmic encephalitis After ingestion, the parasite crosses the intestinal epithelium and rapidly achieves systemic dissemination, ultimately establishing chronic infection in the brain. 3. The Prognostic and Treatment Predictive Value of Proliferation and TIMP-1 in Breast Cancer
Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common tumour form and the second leading cause of death in solid tumours in women in the Western world. Despite improvements in the treatment, a considerable number of patients will relapse and die from their breast cancer. READ MORE

4. Matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP-26) and Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-4 (TIMP-4) in normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium
Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to study matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP-26) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-4 (TIMP-4) in normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium. Most importantnly, both these molecules may be ivolved in the implantation process. Trophoblast tissue from human as well as mouse embryos produces pro-MMP-9. READ MORE

5. Structure and function of MMP-2 and its inhibitor TIMP-2
Abstract : Animal cells secrete various enzymes capable of degrading the extracellular matrix. One of the most studied groups of these are the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). This group of zinc containing endopeptidases consists at present of 26 members and this number is still increasing. READ MORE
