  1. 1. Spark plasma sintering and deformation behaviour of Titanium and Titanium/TiB2Spark plasma sintering and deformation behaviour of Titanium and Titanium/TiB2 composites

    Author : Mirva Eriksson; Zhijian Shen; Guocai Chai; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : Titanium has been used as a model substance to study how it behaves in a SPS apparatus when heating rate and/or pressure were varied during the sintering and deformation process. The sintering and deformation of Ti in SPS were compared with that occurring in the conventional hot pressing (HP) in order to reveal if there are any positive effects added by the use of SPS. 2. 2. Spark Plasma Sintering Enhancing Grain Sliding, Deformation and Grain Size Control : Studies of the Systems Ti, Ti/TiB2, Na0.5 K0.5 NbO3, and Hydroxyapatite

    Author : Mirva Eriksson; Zhijian Shen; Takashi Goto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spark plasma sintering; plastic deformation; grain growth; titanium; TiB2; hydroxyapatite; Na0.5K0.5NbO3; ferroelectric; transparent; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : The unique features of the Spark plasma sintering (SPS) were used to investigate the sintering and deformation behaviour of titanium and titanium–titanium diboride composites, and to control the sintering and grain growth of ferroelectric Na0.5K0.5NbO3 (NKN) and of hydroxyapatite (HAp). 3. 3. Functional Aspects of Cranial Implants : Mechanical and Regenerative Properties

    Author : Susanne Lewin; Caroline Öhman-Mägi; Cecilia Persson; Harry van Lenthe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Calcium phosphate; Ti-6Al-4V; composites; mechanical properties; finite element methods; cranial implants; computed tomography; quantitative image analysis; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : In several neurosurgical procedures, the skull must be temporarily opened. The resulting bone defect can subsequently be reconstructed with a cranial implant. However, the complication rate of this surgical procedure is high (~20%). The most common complication for cranial implants is infection. READ MORE

  4. 4. Local structure and composition : in additively manufactured bulk metallic glasses and composites

    Author : Inga Katharina Goetz; Jochen M. Schneider; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Ulf Jansson; Maria Teresa Pérez Prado; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; additive manufacturing; bulk metallic glasses; nanoscale clustering; convective flow; laser nitriding; laser powder bed fusion; metallic glass - ceramic composites; oxygen impurities; mechanical properties; magnetic properties; viscosity; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Additive manufacturing enables the production of complex multi-material geometries and bulk metallic glass parts beyond their critical casting thickness. The local modification of structure, composition, and properties is explored in this thesis with the aim to design novel composite materials and functional gradients. READ MORE

  5. 5. Reduction Annealing Synthesis of Nanostructured Carbide and Nitride Particulate Composites

    Author : Andreas Engström; Caisa Samuelsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : This thesis covers reduction-annealing synthesis of nanostructured SiC-TiCN and SiC-TiC particulate composite powders. These were characterized by X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. READ MORE
