11. On the regulation of immune responses to dietary and self antigens
Abstract : Regulatory mechanisms are necessary to avoid the misdirected aggressive immune responses responsible for the pathology seen in autoimmunity and allergy. Thymic-derived CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells are indispensible for this regulation. We investigated if CD4+CD25+ Treg prevents auto-reactive responses in adult peripheral blood and cord blood. 12. CRISPRi/a for investigating yeast tolerance to inhibitors in lignocellulosic hydrolysates
Abstract : Saccharomyces cerevisiae has immense potential as a cell factory in various biotechnological processes where biomass from agricultural industry residues is used as feedstock. Nonetheless, the inhibitors released during the pretreatment of the biomass makes lignocellulosic hydrolysates a challenging substrate for microorganisms. READ MORE

13. Managing Geometrical Variation in Complex Assemblies through Visualization and Tolerance Allocation
Abstract : To stay competitive in the market today, manufacturing companies have to shorten their time to market. This implies that time also has to be saved during the product development phase. This thesis will mainly focus on how to be more efficient in the detail design phase through different design activities. READ MORE

14. Tolerance Mechanisms in Collagen-Induced Arthritis an Animal Model of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Abstract : Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is one of the most commonly used animal models for Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). CIA is induced in susceptible mouse strains after immunization with heterologous type II collagen (CII). In mice of the H-2q haplotype rat CII (rCII) is used whereas in mice of the H-2r haplotype bovine CII is utilized. READ MORE

15. Impacts of Antifouling Compounds on Photosynthesis, Community Tolerance and psbA Genes in Marine Periphyton
Abstract : Toxicants can act as selective pressures in the environment, eliminating sensitive genotypes or species and favouring tolerant ones. Such toxicant-induced selection can be detected in natura... READ MORE
