  1. 1. Design Space Exploration : co-operative creation of proposals for desired interactions with future artefacts

    Author : Bo Westerlund; Yngve Sundblad; Peter Ullmark; Elizabeth B.-N. Sanders; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Design process; co-operative design; participatory design; prototype; video prototype; attention; industrial design; design space; prop; Design;

    Abstract : This thesis critically reflects on co-operative design workshops that I have conducted. The basic method used in these workshops draws on the participants’ embodied knowing. READ MORE

  2. 2. Flow over rough surfaces, and conjugate heat transfer, in engineering applications

    Author : Bercelay Niebles Atencio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Naphthalene Sublimation Tecnhique; Antifouling paint; convective heat transfer; Roughness Function; correlation; CFD; RANS; stator channel; electric generator; Impinging Jet; Skin-Friction Drag; Rotating Disk; Ship Hull;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on two important topics in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer that were treated separately. On the one hand, the flow over rough surfaces, which is not yet completely understood, despite of the fact that it has an important implication in many engineering applications, especially in the naval industry for ships and boats because the friction drag caused by fouling, antifouling coatings and roughness in general impacts the fuel consumption and toxic emissions to the atmosphere. 3. 3. Staging urban emergence through collective creativity: Devising an outdoor mobile augmented reality tool

    Author : Hyekyung Imottesjo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Urban Rules; Emergent processes; outdoor mobile augmented reality; Compact city; Complex adaptive systems; Urban resilience; collaborative design; research-through-design;

    Abstract : The unpredictability of global geopolitical conflicts, economic trends, and impacts of climate change, coupled with an increasing urban population, necessitates a more profound commitment to resilience thinking in urban planning and design. In contrast to top-down planning and designing for sustainability, allowing for emergence to take place seems to contribute to a capacity to better deal with this complex unpredictability, by allowing incremental changes through bottom-up, self-organized adaptation made by diverse actors in the proximity of various social, economical and functional entities in the urban context. 4. 4. Designing out waste - Exploring barriers for material recirculation

    Author : Isabel Ordonez Pizarro; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; waste sorting; sustainable development; Water; Waste; Urban; waste management; Resources; resource recovery; Recycling; designing with waste; recycling;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis has investigated what hinders material recirculation in society, to later suggest possible ways to support material recirculation in the future. Since material recirculation is proposed as a way to use waste materials for new production, it was deemed relevant to investigate two separate case studies that enabled recirculation from production systems and waste management. 5. 5. On-scalp MEG using high-Tc SQUIDs: Measuring brain activity with superconducting magnetometers

    Author : Christoph Pfeiffer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-Tc SQUID; neuroimaging; magnetoencephalography; localization; on-scalp MEG; sensor array; magnetometer;

    Abstract : This thesis describes work done towards realizing on-scalp magnetoencephalography (MEG) based on high critical temperature (high- T c) superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) sensors. MEG is a non-invasive neuroimaging modality that records the magnetic fields produced by neural currents with good spatial and high temporal resolution. READ MORE
