  1. 1. Topological Phase Transitions in Magnetic Nanostructures of Dirac Materials

    Author : Nezhat Pournaghavi; Carlo M. Canali; Michael Flatté; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Topological insulators; Magnetic materials; Quantum anomalous Hall effect; Topological magneto electric effect; Dirac semimetals; Weyl semimetals; Condensed Matter Physics; Kondenserade materians fysik;

    Abstract : Over the past two decades, the discovery of topological Dirac materials, such as topological insulators and semimetals, has defined a new paradigm in condensed matter physics and established new platforms for realizing spin electronic devices and quantum computing. The novel quantum properties of these materials, which are mainly due to the presence of strong spin-orbit coupling, are invariant under topological transformations, making them more resilient to structural disorder, electromagnetic and thermal fluctuations in comparison to the conventional silicon-based materials. 2. 2. Consequences of a non-trivial band-structure topology in solids : Investigations of topological surface and interface states

    Author : Magnus H. Berntsen; Oscar Tjernberg; Philip Hofmann; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy; time-of-flight analyzer; laser based light source; topological insulator; topological crystalline insulator; thin films; surface state; interface state; Bi2Se3; Pb1-xSnxSe;

    Abstract : The development and characterization of experimental setups for angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (SARPES) is described. Subsequently, the two techniques are applied to studies of the electronic band structure in topologically non-trivial materials. READ MORE

  3. 3. Graphene spin circuits and spin-orbit phenomena in van der Waals heterostructures with topological insulators

    Author : Dmitrii Khokhriakov; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Spin-charge conversion; Topological insulator; Spintronics; Proximity effect; Van der Waals heterostructures;

    Abstract : Spintronics offers an alternative approach to conventional charge-based information processing by using the electron spin for next-generation non-volatile memory and logic technologies. To realize such technologies, it is necessary to develop spin-polarized current sources, spin interconnects, charge-to-spin conversion processes, and gate-tunable spintronic functionalities. Abstract : This thesis explores the physics of nanostructures involving nanowires, quantum dots, superconductors, and topological insulators. These systems serve as excellent platforms for fundamental physics studies and quantum technology applications. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interactions on the edge of a quantum spin Hall insulator

    Author : Anders Ström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; topological insulators; quantum spin Hall effect; low-dimensional physics; bosonization; renormalization group;

    Abstract : Effects from electron-electron interactions on the edge of a quantum spin Hall insulator are studied using bosonisation and renormalisation group methods. First, a quantum spin Hall device with a point contact connecting two of its edges is considered. READ MORE
