  1. 1. Application of a Sandwich Construction on a Superstructure of a High Speed Ferry

    Author : Gaurav Ahuja; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; catamaran; pitch connecting moment; carbon fibre; natural frequency analysis; light weight structure; structural optimisation.; torsional moment; glass fibre; Sandwich construction; finite element analysis;

    Abstract : Usage of light weight materials has gained momentum in the marine market in the last few decades. This rise has lead to some ships using parts fabricated out of materials like glass and carbon fibre. READ MORE

  2. 2. Moisture-induced distortion in timber structures - examples based on partition walls

    Author : Magnus Bäckström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; gypsum wallboard; spiral grain angle; restraint; Norway spruce; Connection; twist; spring;

    Abstract : The shape of timber changes due to variations in moisture content (MC). In Scandinavia, producers normally dry timber to an MC of 18%. However, after the studs are built into the wall structure, for example, they may become distorted as a result of further drying in the structure. The final MC in a heated building in Scandinavia is about 8%. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bracing of steel bridges during construction; theory, full-scale tests and simulations

    Author : Hassan Mehri; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bracing; steel-concrete composite; steel; bridge; test; construction; laboratory; experiment; experimental; theory;

    Abstract : A number of steel bridges have suffered lateral-torsional failure during their construction due to their lacking adequate lateral and/or rotational stiffness. In most cases, slight bracing can be of great benefit to the main girders involved through their controlling out-of-plane deformations and enabling the resistance that is needed to be achieved. 4. 4. Column buckling with restraint from sandwich wall elements

    Author : Eva Hedman-Petursson; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Sandwich wall elements are often used as cladding on industrial buildings together with a steel framing. This thesis deals with the restraining effect of a sandwich element wall on steel beam-columns. READ MORE
