  1. 16. Role of manganese redox cycling for trace metals in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Susanne Bauer; Per Hall; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Redox zones are defined by steep gradients of changing concentrations and changing redox potential. They form a transition zone between oxic and anoxic/sulfidic conditions, where nitrate, manganese and iron reduction occurs. These redox zones can be situated in the sediment as well as in the water column. In the Baltic Sea both types are found. READ MORE

  2. 17. Investigations of thermophysical properties of slags with focus on slag-metal interface

    Author : Luckman Muhmood; Seshadri Seetharaman; Nurni Neelakandan Viswanathan; Allan Cramb; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; slags; density; diffusivity; sessile drop; interfacial velocity; interfacial viscosity; interfacial dilatational modulus; interfacial shear viscosity; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The objective of this research work was to develop a methodology for experimentally estimating the interfacial properties at slag-metal interfaces. From previous experiments carried out in the division, it was decided to use surface active elements like sulfur or oxygen to trace any motion at the interface. READ MORE

  3. 18. Isotope Ratio and Trace Element Measurements Using Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry : Method Development and Applications in Environmental Forensics

    Author : Simon Pontér; Anders Widerlund; Hjalmar Laudon; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Isotope ratio measurements; screening analysis; ICP-MS; MC-ICP-MC; multi-tracer studies; fractionation; Environmental Forensics; Tracing; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Abstract : Environmental Forensics is a scientific methodology developed for identifying sources, the timing of release, and transport pathways for potentially hazardous environmental contaminants. It combines a variety of analytical methods with principles derived from disciplines such as chemistry, geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, and statistics, with the purpose to provide objective scientific and legal conclusions on the source and/or time of a contaminant release. 4. 19. Sulphide oxidation, oxygen diffusion and metal mobility in sulphide-bearing mine tailings in Northern Sweden

    Author : Lena Alakangas; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Large quantities of sulphide-bearing mining wastes produced from ore processing are deposited throughout the world. Sulphide oxidation in the wastes may release acidic water with high concentrations of metals to the environment. Remediation strategies are usually site specific, since the physical and chemical properties of the wastes vary. READ MORE

  5. 20. Mineralogical Controls on the Recovery of Antimony in Base-Metal Flotation – Outlining the Framework of a Geometallurgical Model for the Rockliden VHMS Deposit, Sweden

    Author : Friederike Minz; Julie Hunt; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malmgeologi; Ore Geology;

    Abstract : The results presented in this thesis are a case study on the polymetallic Zn–Cu volcanic-hosted massive sulphide (VHMS) deposit at Rockliden. The Rockliden mineralisation is located in north-central Sweden, about 150 km south of the Skellefte district. READ MORE
