  1. 11. Towards CO2 efficient centralised distribution

    Author : Christofer Kohn; Maria Huge Brodin; Mats Abrahamsson; Alan McKinnon; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : CO2 emissions; Centralised distribution; Structural change; Shipper; Transport; Trade-off; Interrelationship; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This dissertation treats a topic that has received increasing attention as of late, namely that of the environment and in particular increasing levels of CO2 emissions caused by transport. The aim of the dissertation is to explain how a shipper, through various measures, can reduce transport-related CO2 emissions when centralising a distribution system and how this affects the provision of cost efficient customer service. 2. 12. Phenotypic plasticity and local adaptation in tadpoles

    Author : Björn Lardner; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; salinity tolerance; trade-off; life-history; tail depth; inducible defence; antipredator strategies; tadpoles; anurans; amphibians; Phenotypic plasticity; local adaptation; competitive ability; allozymes.; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Abstract : Amphibian larvae are plastic in many traits. Can plasticity buffer population divergence, so that local adaptation is more common in non-plastic traits? I argue that this may be the case for adaptive plastic responses. READ MORE

  3. 13. Adaptation Along Environmental Gradients: an Evaluation of Physiological Mechanisms and Ecological Constraints

    Author : Beatrice Lindgren; Anssi Laurila; Jacob Höglund; Svante Winberg; Andrew Sih; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biology; Rana temporaria; latitudinal clines; growth rate; growth efficiency; SMR; predation; competition; trade-off; Biologi;

    Abstract : For ectotherms living in seasonal environments, time available for development and growth is often constrained by the length of the growth season. Declining season length towards higher latitudes often select for latitudinal clines in development and growth rates, exhibiting increasing growth and developmental rates towards the north. 4. 14. Effects of Habitat Quality on Behavioural Decisions and Population Dynamics in the Siberian Jay

    Author : Magdalena Nystrand; Jan Ekman; Erik Matthysen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biology; Perisoreus infaustus; relatedness; delayed dispersal; predation risk; foraging; trade-off; demography; source-sink dynamics; forest structure; Biologi;

    Abstract : The dynamics of natural populations may be influenced by a variety of factors, ranging from feeding interference and territoriality to the risk of predation and climatic effects. The relative influence of these factors may be contingent upon the quality of the habitat in which individuals reside. READ MORE
