  1. 1. Atrial function and loading conditions in athletes

    Author : Flavio D'Ascenzi; Michael Henein; Sergio Mondillo; Roxy Senior; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; athlete s heart; training; exercise; speckle-tracking echocardiography; atrial strain; atrial deformation; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract : Intensive training is associated with hemodynamic changes that typically induce an enlargement of cardiac chamber. Despite LA dilatation in athletes has been interpreted as a benign adaptation, little evidence is available. READ MORE

  2. 2. Physical performance, physical activity, body composition and exercise training in adults with congenital heart disease

    Author : Camilla Sandberg; Bengt Johansson; Karin Wadell; Lena Jonasson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adult congenital heart disease; physical performance; physical activity; body composition; exercise training; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Abstract : Background Adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) is a growing population and related to advances in surgical and medical treatment, they now outnumber the children with corresponding lesions. Since a congenital heart lesion often results in reduced exercise capacity, this population is a potential target for physiotherapy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects of regular long-term endurance exercise in adolescents, with focus on cardiac size and function, hormones, and the immune system

    Author : Louise Rundqvist; Maria Faresjö; Peter Blomstrand; Katarina Steding-Ehrenborg; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adolescence; endurance-trained; cardiac dimension; cardiac systolic function; cardiac diastolic function; growth hormone; immune response; echocardiography; biomarkers; cytokines; chemokines; insulin-like growth factor 1; type 1 diabetes-related autoantigen; proinsulin;

    Abstract : The long-term effects of starting high-intensity training at younger ages are largely unknown. The present studies focused on adolescents who had performed regular endurance exercise for several years at an elite level and compared those subjects with a control group of adolescents of similar age and sex who had not engaged in regular exercise. 4. 4. The life situation of patients with heart failure in primary health care. An explorative and interventional study

    Author : Jan Mårtensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; life situation; heart failure; primary health care; chronic illness; spouses; inside and outside perspective; caring; social network; social support; patient education; self-care behaviour; health-related quality of life; gender differences; Heart failure; Nursing; Cardiology;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to obtain a deeper understanding of the life situation of patients with mild to severe heart failure and their spouses, and to determine the effects of a nurse-led intervention on patients with heart failure in primary health care. A phe-nomenographic approach was used to describe how male (N=12) and female (N=12) patients with heart failure conceive their life situa-tion (I, II), and the critical incident technique was used to describe spousal (N=23) experience of factors that influence their support of the patient with heart failure. 5. 5. Exercise physiology and cardiac function. Aspects on determinants of maximal oxygen uptake

    Author : Katarina Steding Ehrenborg; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; respiratory indices; peak oxygen uptake; heart failure; cardiac magnetic resonance imaging; exercise physiology;

    Abstract : Although the athlete's heart has been of interest for over 100 years, further characterization of the athletes heart is needed in order to understand how training affects cardiac dimensions and function. Few studies have investigated the effects of training in female athletes and few have compared males and females. READ MORE
