  1. 1. Traits & Talks : Lessons about Personality and Deliberation from the Negotiations between Nelson Mandela and FW de Klerk

    Author : Julia Jennstål; Bo Bengtsson; Per-Ola Öberg; Jakob Elster; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Personality; five-factor model; big five; traits; facets; interactionalism; deliberation; collective decision-making; negotiations; South Africa; Nelson Mandela; FW de Klerk; Statskunskap; Political Science;

    Abstract : Compelling research in political psychology and personality psychology points to the significance of personality as a determinant of political behavior. Within a comprehensive framework for the study of personality in politics, the so-called Five-level Model (FLM), this thesis primarily focuses on the level of personality traits, where the well-established Five-factor model (the ‘Big Five’) is applied.     Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cape Town; cities; ecosystem services; environmental management; functional traits; interdisciplinary; landscaping preferences; residential landscapes; social-ecological system; Stockholm; traits; urban ecology; Kapstaden; städer; kulturella ekosystemtjänster; ekosystemtjänster; miljöförvaltning; funktionella egenskaper; tvärvetenskaplig; anläggningspreferenser; bostadsmiljö; socialekologiska system; Stockholm; växtegenskaper; urban ekologi; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Abstract : Cities, as home to the majority of the world’s people, are significant sites for addressing challenges of achieving sustainability and securing human wellbeing. Urban environments are complex social-ecological systems, and meeting these challenges requires better understandings of the interactions of social and ecological elements. READ MORE

    Abstract : Introduction Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by restrictions in social interaction, understanding, and communication, by stereotyped patterns of repetitive behaviors, and by narrow interests. ASDs, which affect about 1% of the population, are predominantly genetic, but no single explanation has been found. READ MORE

  4. 4. Functional Traits in Sphagnum

    Author : Fia Bengtsson; Håkan Rydin; Gustaf Granath; Cronberg Nils; Sari Juutinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peat mosses; functional traits; NPP; decay resistance; N2 fixation; desiccation resistance; climate; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Peat mosses (Sphagnum) are ecosystem engineers that largely govern carbon sequestration in northern hemisphere peatlands. I investigated functional traits in Sphagnum species and addressed the questions: (I) Are growth, photosynthesis and decomposition and the trade-offs between these traits related to habitat or phylogeny?, (II) Which are the determinants of decomposition and are there trade-offs between metabolites that affect decomposition?, (III) How do macro-climate and local environment determine growth in Sphagnum across the Holarctic?, (IV) How does N2 fixation vary among different species and habitats?, (V) How do species from different microtopographic niches avoid or tolerate desiccation, and are leaf and structural traits adaptations to growth high above the water table?Photosynthetic rate and decomposition in laboratory conditions (innate growth and decay resistance) were related to growth and decomposition in their natural habitats. 5. 5. The Development of Conduct Problems in Early Childhood : The Role of Psychopathic Traits and Psychopathic Personality

    Author : Louise Frogner; Henrik Andershed; Anna-Karin Andershed; Essi Viding; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; conduct problems; callous-unemotional traits; developmental psychopathology; diagnostics; early childhood; psychopathic traits; psychopathic personality; Psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : Research has shown that children displaying conduct problems (CP) early in life are at greater risk for severe CP and other negative outcomes later in life. However, not all children with early-onset CP will develop severe CP over the life-course. READ MORE
