  1. 1. Fibrinolysis and blood loss in major arthroplasty. The effect of tranexamic acid

    Author : Göran Benoni; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; oxygen saturation.; blood loss; pharmacokinetics; tranexamic acid; Fibrinolysis; knee and hip arthroplasty; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : Blood loss in major arthroplasty may be abundant and often necessitates blood transfusions. These may transmit disease and entail an immunological burden to the recipient. After trauma and surgery, the fibrinolytic system reacts with a short period of increased activity, followed by a fibrinolytic shut-down. READ MORE

  2. 2. The use of fibrinogen in cardiac surgery patients-clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Katarina Waldén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fibrinogen; cardiac surgery; bleeding; transfusion; thromboembolism; tranexamic acid;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass impairs hemostasis due to hemodilution and consumption of platelets and coagulation factors, such as fibrinogen. The aim of this thesis was to study the role of fibrinogen in bleeding complications in cardiac surgery patients. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aprotinin for reduction of bleeding and transfusions in patients on clopidogrel undergoing urgent coronary surgery

    Author : Gabriella Lindvall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Acute coronary syndrome; aprotinin; clopidogrel; platelets; surgery; tranexamic acid; transfusions;

    Abstract : Background: An increased proportion of patients with acute coronary syndrome undergo coronary surgery while treated with clopidogrel, an irreversible platelet ADP-receptor inhibitor. Clopidogrel in combination with aspirin is known to augment bleeding, transfusion requirements, and reoperation rates after coronary surgery. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects on menstrual physiology, pathology and medical treatment of menorrhagia

    Author : Måns Edlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Menstruation; endometrium; coiled arteries; endothelin; vasoconstriction; progesterone withdrawal; menorrhagia; bleeding disorder; von Willebrand Disease; fibrinolysis; tranexamic acid; desmopressin; platelet dysfunction; thrombin.;

    Abstract : Menstruation is the monthly process by which the endometrium in fertile women is discarded if no pregnancy occurs. The physiology and pathology of menstruation has been extensively studied; still several steps are not fully understood. Menorrhagia, heavy regular menstrual bleeding, is a gynaecological symptom of disease. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cardiac surgery and antiplatelet therapy

    Author : Carl Johan Malm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac surgery; Platelets;

    Abstract : Background Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and a P2Y12 inhibitor improves outcome in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In the subset of ACS patients undergoing urgent cardiac surgery, ongoing or recently discontinued DAPT is associated with increased risk of bleeding. READ MORE
