1. Selection in sperm and its consequences : Exploring haploid selection, ageing and epigenetic effects in sperm
Abstract : Sexually reproducing eukaryotes are typically going through a biphasic life cycle with a diploid and a haploid phase. Unlike in plants where selection on haploid pollen genotypes is well established, the possibility of selection occurring in animal sperm is currently not known. READ MORE

2. Ligand Dependent Regioselectivity in Palladium Mediated Allylic Alkylation
Abstract : In this thesis, different aspects on ligand dependent regioselectivity in palladium mediated allylic alkylation have been studied. It is believed that the regioselectivity is a result of nucleophilic attack trans to phosphorous when applying ligands wih different donor atoms. READ MORE

3. Cellular Effects of Cystatins
Abstract : The exact cellular functions of cystatins are still unknown, and the molecular mechanism leading to their internalization into cells is not yet fully understood. Commonly the cystatins are known to inhibit human lysosomal cysteine proteases (cysteine cathepsins) and it is supposed that this is their primary physiological role. READ MORE

4. Mixture Effects of Environmental Contaminants
Abstract : Chemical exposure in humans rarely consists of a single chemical. The everyday exposure is characterized by thousands of chemicals mainly present at low levels. Despite that fact, risk assessment of chemicals is carried out on a chemical-by-chemical basis although there is a consensus that this view is too simplistic. READ MORE

5. Packing effects in palladium(II) and platinum(II) compounds, X-ray crystallography
Abstract : This thesis focuses on i) the effect of packing on the molecular geometry ii) packing arrangements of neutral Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes iii) the trans influence in Pt(II) complexes iv) the differences in bonding in corresponding Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes and v) the geometry of Pd(II) complexes with potential catalytic properties. Detailed three-dimensional structural information at the atomic level can be obtained from X-ray crystallography. READ MORE
