  1. 6. Gene regulation by the glucocorticoid receptor : post-DNA binding mechanisms of transcriptional activation

    Author : Tova Almlöf; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Gene activation; Glucocorticoid receptor; Nuclear receptor; Transactivation domain; Transcription; Transcription factor; Yeast;

    Abstract : The glucocorticoid receptor (GR) is a ligand-inducible transcription factor that belongs to the nuclear receptor family. The GR has important functions in cellular differentiation, development and metabolism in higher eukaryotes. READ MORE

  2. 7. Chromatin remodeling complexes involved in gene activation by the glucocorticoid receptor

    Author : Annika Wallberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The glucocorticoid receptor (GR) belongs to a large family of ligand-inducible nuclear receptors and consists of a ligand binding domain, a DNA binding domain and transactivation domains. The main transcriptional activation domain, c1, is located in the N-terminus of the receptor. The r1c represents the minimal core activation domain of r1. READ MORE

  3. 8. Oxygen-dependent regulation of transcription by the hypoxia-inducible factor-1

    Author : Jorge Lira Ruas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Hypoxia; HIF-1; protein degradation; transcription; coactivators; CBP; subcellular localization; C1-tetrahydrofolate synthase;

    Abstract : Under limited oxygen availability (hypoxia) cells undergo rapid reprogramming in order to survive in the new environment until normoxic conditions are re-established. The observation that hypoxia can induce the expression of genes involved in erythropoiesis, angiogenesis and glucose metabolism among others, led to the identification of the hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) as a master regulator of the hypoxia-response pathway. 4. 9. On the structure-function relationship of p73

    Author : Ulrika Nyman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The development of multicellular organisms requires a balance between the cellular processes of proliferation, differentiation and death. These processes are important throughout the whole life of the organism. Daily, the DNA in our cells is under attack by agents that can cause damage. READ MORE

  5. 10. Studies on the regulation of the Napin napA promoter by ABI3, bZIP and bHLH transcription factors

    Author : Nathalie Martin; Lars Rask; Ines Ezcurra; Olof Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular biology; transcription gene regulation; plant seed maturation; seed storage protein; ABA; ABI3; bZIP; bHLH; Brassica napus; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The B3-domain transcription factor ABI3 is a major regulator of gene expression of seed maturation during Arabidopsis embryogenesis. The napA gene encodes for a Brassica napus 2S storage protein specifically expressed in the embryo during the early and mid-maturation phase (MAT program). READ MORE
