  1. 1. On diverse biophysical aspects of genetics : from the action of regulators to the characterization of transcripts

    Author : Aymeric Fouquier D´Hérouel; Erik Aurell; Felix Ritort; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcription regulation; regulatory motifs; binding affinity; genetic interactions; secondary structure; sequence repeats; transcript characterization; Biological physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Genetics is among the most rewarding fields of biology for the theoretically inclined, offering both room and need for modeling approaches in the light of an abundance of experimental data of different kinds. Many aspects of the field are today understood in terms of physical and chemical models, joined by information theoretical descriptions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vitreoscilla hemoglobin. In vitro mutagenesis and transcript profiling to improve its biotechnological usefulness

    Author : Charlotte Andersson; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemical technology; Biokemisk teknik; gene expression analysis; transcript profiling; microarray; DNA chips; microaerobic; hypoxia; oxygen-limited; bacterial hemoglobin; Escherichia coli; Vitreoscilla hemoglobin VHb ;

    Abstract : Vitreoscilla is an obligate aerobic bacterium found in oxygen-poor environments such as stagnant ponds and decaying vegetable matter. Vitreoscilla induces the production of a homodimeric hemoglobin (VHb) when subjected to oxygen-limiting conditions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Crustacean immunity : Characterization of some crayfish blood proteins

    Author : Pia Gambäck Keyser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; fysiologisk mykologi; Physiological Mycology;

    Abstract : The cDNA sequence and some properties of a previously purified #x03B2;-1,3-glucan binding protein are reported here. The putative amino acid sequence (predicted molecular mass: 152 kDa) of the protein did not show any significant similarity to any known protein, but an RGD motif and a region with slight similarity to bacterial glucanase was found. 5. 5. Genetic Characterization of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

    Author : Anna Dahlen; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; mesenchymal tumor; pericytoma; Genetics; chondroma; lipoma;

    Abstract : Bone and soft tissue tumors (BSTT) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal and neuroectodermal origin. Although many BSTT are rare, it has become clear that BSTT are characterized by recurrent acquired chromosomal aberrations, and the general aim of this thesis have been to apply molecular genetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques to further characterize recurrent breakpoints and deletions, and to search for candidate target genes.
