    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcriptome reconstruction; transcriptome assembly; transcript isoform detection; Picea abies; acrocona; cone setting; differential expression; gene families; miRNA; quality assessment; transkriptomrekonstruktion; sammansättning av transkriptom; detektering av transkriptisoform; rödgran; kottegran; kottsättning; differentiellt uttryck; genfamiljer; kvalitetsutvärdering; miRNA; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : Transcriptome reconstruction is an important component in the bioinformatical part of transcriptome studies. When a reference genome is missing, highly fragmented or incomplete, a de novo transcriptome assembly is the transcriptome reconstruction approach of choice, since in such situations, a simple alignment (or mapping) would not necessarily give all theinformation concerning splice junctions, isoforms or even the full extent of the gene. 2. 2. Exploring genetic diversity in natural and domestic populations through next generation sequencing

    Author : Nima Rafati; Leif Andersson; Carl-Johan Rubin; Alvaro Martinez Bario; Craig Primmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecological adaptation; seasonal reproduction; Atlantic herring; domestication; speciation; rabbit; skeletal atavism; Shetland ponies; NGS; SMRT sequencing; genome; transcriptome; assembly; structural variation; genetic diversity; HCE; TSHR; SHOX; CRLF2;

    Abstract : Studying genetic diversity in natural and domestic populations is of major importance in evolutionary biology. The recent advent of next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies has dramatically changed the scope of these studies, enabling researchers to study genetic diversity in a whole-genome context. 3. 3. Methods for transcriptome reconstruction, with an application in Picea abies (L.) H. Karst

    Author : Karl Johan Westrin; Olof Emanuelsson; Björn Nystedt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acrocona; cone setting; transcript isoform detection; miRNA; Picea abies; quality assessment; transcriptome assembly; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Transcriptome reconstruction is an important component in the bioinformatical part of transcriptome studies. It is particulary interesting when a reference genome is missing, highly fragmented or incomplete, since in such situations, a simple alignment (or mapping) would not necessarily tell the full story. 4. 4. Development and Application of Genomic Resources in Non-model Bird Species

    Author : Biao Wang; Jacob Höglund; Christopher Wheat; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genome; transcriptome; next generation sequencing; non-model species; bioinformatics; reference guided assembly; RNA-Seq; comparative genomics; gene expression; major histocompatibility complex; single nucleotide polymorphism; microsatellite; Biologi; Biology;

    Abstract : Understanding the genetic basis of biological processes is a fundamental component of modern ecology and evolutionary biology studies. With the recent advent of next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, it is now possible to perform large genome and transcriptome projects for ecologically important non-model species. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transcriptome Analyses of the Nematode-trapping Fungus Monacrosporium haptotylum

    Author : Margareta Tholander; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Pathogenic fungi; Nematophagous fungi; Nematodes; Biological control; cDNA microarray; Transcriptome analysis; Nematode-trapping fungi; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Nematode-trapping fungi are soil living organisms with the ability to infect and kill nematodes. These fungi have developed specialized infection structures, traps for the capture of nematodes. To be able to identify genes in nematode-trapping fungi that are involved in the infection of nematodes cDNA microarrays were constructed. READ MORE
