  1. 6. New Intraoperative Techniques to Improve Advanced Aortic Root Surgery

    Author : Faleh Alrashidi; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Modified Ross Operation; Aortic Root surgery; Microemboli signals MES ; Transcranial Doppler TCD ; Acute plateletphersis APP ; Transesophageal echocardiography TEE ; de-airing;

    Abstract : Study I: Thirteen patients underwent a modified Ross operation in which the free-standing pulmonary autograft was supported externally by a Dacron vascular prosthetic jacket (DVPJ). The tailor-made DVPJ prevented dilatation of the neo-aortic root significantly following a median follow-up of 47 months compared to a cohort of l3 matched patients undergoing conventional Ross operation. 2. 7. Carbon dioxide de-airing in cardiac surgery

    Author : Peter Svenarud; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Carbon dioxide; De-airing; Air embolism; Cardiac surgery; Insufflation device; Microemboli; Transesophageal echocardiography;

    Abstract : Background: The risks connected with the presence of air microemboli in open-heart surgery, have recently been emphasized by reports that their number is correlated with the degree of postoperative neuropsychological disorder. Insufflation of carbon dioxide (C02) into the chest wound is used in open-heart surgery to de-air the heart and great vessels. READ MORE

  3. 8. Left ventricular filling during coronary artery bypass grafting

    Author : Sten Samuelsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Heart: surgery; coronary artery revascularization; ventricle; mitral valve Cardiopulmonary bypass Cardiac output Thermodilution Echocardiography: transesophageal; two-dimensional; Doppler Radionuclide ventriculographySten Samue;

    Abstract : Left ventricular (LV) filling, determination of preload, right ventricular end-diastolic volumes, volume contributions during early (E) and atrial (A) phases of LV filling and mitral valve opening areas were studied in 75 patients scheduled for elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The purposes of the study were: (1) To evaluate changes in LV filling judged as peak velocity E/A ratios determined by Doppler transesophageal echocardiography during and in the early phase after CABG. 4. 9. Infectious endocarditis, aspects on pathogenesis, diagnosis and prognosis

    Author : Anders Thalme; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Endocarditis; diagnosis; prognosis; outcome; criteria; echocardiography; TEE; injecting druguse; S aureus; internalization; FnBP; endothelial cells;

    Abstract : The incidence of infectious endocarditis (IE) is estimated to 5.9/100.000 inhabitants and year. In recent years there has been an improvement in prognosis mainly due to more sensitive echocardiographic methods and surgery in the acute phase of the infection. READ MORE

  5. 10. Splanchnic circulation in cardiac surgery

    Author : Michael Gårdebäck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : cardiopulmonary bypass dopamine dopexamine echocardiography ethanol; heart surgery indocyanine green intramucosal pHi splanchnic circulationMichael Gårdebäck; 1996;

    Abstract : The studies addressed different techniques of monitoring hepatic and splanchnic blood flow (SBF) during open heart surgery. Calculations of gastric mucosal pH (pHi) using tonometry was performed in 72 patients, and the effect of dopaminergic stimulation on pH1 was studied in 33 patients. READ MORE
