21. Functional significance of phosphorylation of rat renal Na+, K+-ATPase by PKA and PKC
Abstract : The activity of Na+,K+-ATPase (NKA) is short term regulated by hormones as well as by signalling pathways that involve activation of PKA or PKC, but the mechanism(s) remains unclear. This study was performed to evaluate whether this regulation of NKA occurs via PKA- or PKC-mediated phosphorylation of the NKA a subunit. READ MORE

22. Expression of recombinant neutralizing anti-HIV-1 antibodies in bacteria and eukaryotic cells
Abstract : The main purpose of this study was to investigate and optimize techniques for eukaryotic expression of antibody molecules (IgG, Fab and scFV-ê formats), derived from an immune phage displayed Fab library and reactive against HIV-1 glycoproteins gp120 and gp41. Light and heavy-chain (Fd) DNA from a number of Fab clones were transferred from a prokaryotic phagemid vectors to mammalian expression vectors. READ MORE

23. Chimeric gene delivery vectors : Design, synthesis, and mechanisms from transcriptomics analysis
Abstract : Delivery of nucleic acid is a promising approach for genetic diseases/disorders. However, gene therapy using oligonucleotides (ONs) suffers from low transfection efficacy due to negative charges, weak cellular permeability, and enzymatic degradation. READ MORE

24. Regulating Gene Expression to Promote Osteoblastic Differentiation of Stem Cells
Abstract : Bone is a tissue that heals by itself, unless the defect is too large (critical size). Today, novel regenerative medicine approaches have emerged as an alternative to treat such defects. This thesis explores alternative therapeutic strategies for bone tissue engineering which are biocompatible and clinically translatable. READ MORE

25. The development of synthetic gene delivery systems
Abstract : This thesis describes a new platform technology. The technique is referred to as Bioplex (biological complex) in analogy with the nomenclature for other transfection reagents, since we attach biological functions to a nucleic acid complex via sequence-specific hybridisation. READ MORE
