  1. 16. Feed-forward Control and Dynamic Modelling in Temperature Control of Buildings

    Author : Mohsen Soleimani-Mohseni; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building models; state space models; feedback; thermostats; transfer function models; intelligent buildings; ON-OFF controllers; Feed-forward; PIL controllers;

    Abstract : This thesis is mainly about the investigations of different control strategies (and in particular feed-forward) in order to improve indoor climate and/or save energy in buildings. One part of the thesis deals with different ways to obtain dynamic models for climate systems in buildings. READ MORE

  2. 17. Touching the Essence of Life : Haptic Virtual Proteins for Learning

    Author : Petter Bivall; Anders Ynnerman; Lena A. E. Tibell; Matthew D. Cooper; Miriam Reiner; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Haptics; Educational Research; Biomolecular Education; Life Science; JND; Just Noticeable Difference; Protein-ligand Docking; Haptic docking; Visualization; Haptic Transfer Functions; Volume Data Haptics; History Dependent Transfer Function; Log file analysis; Molecular Recognition; Force Feedback; Virtual Reality; Other information technology; Övrig informationsteknik;

    Abstract : This dissertation presents research in the development and use of a multi-modal visual and haptic virtual model in higher education. The model, named Chemical Force Feedback (CFF), represents molecular recognition through the example of protein-ligand docking, and enables students to simultaneously see and feel representations of the protein and ligand molecules and their force interactions. 3. 18. Development of a Noise-Based Method for the Determination of the Moderator Temperature Coefficient of Reactivity (MTC) in Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs)

    Author : Christophe Demaziere; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; point-kinetics; Decay Ratio DR ; Gamma-Thermometer GT ; temperature noise structure of the ; correlation length; boron dilution method; noise analysis; core calculations; dynamic reactor transfer function; moderator temperature coefficient MTC ;

    Abstract : The Moderator Temperature Coefficient of reactivity (MTC) is an important safety parameter of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs). In most countries, the so-called at-power MTC has to be measured a few months before the reactor outage, in order to determine if the MTC will not become too negative. READ MORE

  4. 19. Supra-threshold hearing loss and wide dynamic range compression

    Author : Henrik L Olsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Hearing impairment; compression; hearing aids; modulated noise; speech intelligibility; temporal resolution; modulation transfer function;

    Abstract : Cochlear hearing loss leads to deficits in many perceptual aspects, including threshold elevation (loss of sensitivity), reduction of auditory dynamic range (loudness recruitment) and problems with resolving sounds (loss of supra-threshold hearing). An ongoing debate is whether assessment of the individual supra-threshold hearing provides information which is likely to have an important influence on clinical decisions on signal processing strategies. 5. 20. Low Frequency Impact Sound in Timber Buildings : Simulations and Measurements

    Author : Jörgen Olsson; Andreas Linderholt; Leif Kari; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Low-frequency; impact sound; light weight floor; timber joist floor; tapping machine; multi-storey timber building; frequency response functions.; Stegljud; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : An increased share of construction with timber is one possible way of achieving more sustainable and energy-efficient life cycles of buildings. The main reason is that wood is a renewable material and buildings require a large amount of resources. READ MORE
