11. Selective transfer hydrogenations : Catalyst development and mechanistic investigations
Abstract : By generating a library of amino acid-based ligands, pseudo-dipeptides, and combining them with transition metals, we have created selective and efficient ruthenium and rhodium catalysts for the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones. The ruthenium-catalyzed reaction was studied in detail, and we found that alkali metals play a crucial role for the reactivity and selectivity of the reaction. READ MORE

12. Tuning of Energy and Electron Transfer Rates in Donor-Bridge-Acceptor Systems
Abstract : The intramolecular processes of Donor-Bridge-Acceptor (D-B-A) systems have been investigated by spectroscopic methods. The systems consist of porphyrin donors and acceptors linked by oligo-p-phenyleneethynylene bridges. READ MORE

13. Single and Accumulative Electron Transfer – Prerequisites for Artificial Photosynthesis
Abstract : Photoinduced electron transfer is involved in a number of photochemical and photobiological processes. One example of this is photosynthesis, where the absorption of sunlight leads to the formation of charge-separated states by electron transfer. READ MORE

14. Proton transfer in nitric oxide reducing heme-copper oxidases
Abstract : Heme-copper oxidases (HCuOs) are best known as terminal oxidases in the aerobic respiratory chain, in which they catalyze the reduction of oxygen to water. By receiving protons and electrons from opposite sides of the membrane as well as pumping protons, HCuOs contribute to the electrochemical proton gradient over the membrane that can be used for ATP synthesis. 15. Choreography of a proton pump : Studies of charge-transfer reactions in cytochrome c oxidase
Abstract : In the last step of cellular respiration, electrons from metabolites are transferred to molecular oxygen, mediated by the enzyme complexes of the respiratory chain. Some of these enzyme complexes couple these redox reactions to formation of an electrochemical proton gradient across the cell membrane. The proton gradient is used e.g. READ MORE
