  1. 1. The transferrin polymorphism : population genetics and associations with reproductive hazards and disease

    Author : Carin Sikström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Human serum transferrin (TF) carries iron from the intestine, reticuloendothelial system and liver parenchymal cells to proliferating cells in the body. TF is highly polymorphic, and previous findings of associations between TF types and reproductive hazards in different species suggest that the TF polymorphism may be involved in natural selection and susceptibility to disease. 2. 2. Factors influencing transferrin receptor-mediated brain delivery : Evaluating preclinical antibody-based proteins for PET imaging in Alzheimer’s disease

    Author : Rebecca Faresjö Melander; Stina Syvänen; Dag Sehlin; Robert Thorne; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; brain delivery; bispecific antibody; transferrin receptor; Alzheimer s Disease; amyloid-beta; aging; single domain antibody; PET; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics; Neurology; Neurologi; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics;

    Abstract : Antibody-based proteins targeting amyloid-beta (Aβ) could be used as radioligands in positron emission tomography (PET) to study Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathology in the living brain. The prospective advantages of antibody-based PET are to detect pathology earlier, with higher sensitivity, and to evaluate treatment effects of emerging immunotherapies against Aβ. READ MORE

  3. 3. Structural studies on human transferrin

  4. 4. Affibody molecules for proteomic and therapeutic applications

    Author : Caroline Grönwall; Stefan Ståhl; Lena Jendeberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Affibody; protein engineering; phage display; amyloid beta peptide; transferrin; CD25; IL-2 receptor; proteomics; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes generation and characterization of Affibody molecules with future applications in proteomics research, protein structure determinations, therapeutic treatment of disease and medical imaging for in vivo diagnostics. Affibody molecules are engineered affinity proteins developed by combinatorial protein engineering from the 58-residue protein A-derived Z domain scaffold. READ MORE

  5. 5. Erythropoiesis in anemia of rencl failure and malignancy : Studies on erythropoietin, iron, and transferrin receptor : by Soheir Beshara

    Author : Soheir Beshara; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; erythropoiesis; anemia; renal transplantation; prostatic adenocarcinoma; erythropoietin; transferrin receptor; hemorheology positron emission tomography; iron hydroxide sucrose; pharmacokinetics; iron deficiency; 52Fe; 59Fe; red cell utilization; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Erythropoietin (Epo) and iron are essential requirements for erythropoiesis. Serum transferrin receptor (S-TfR) is a marker of total erythropoiesis and tissue iron availability. In patients with renal insufficiency, successful renal transplantation leads to correction of anemia and improvement in erythropoiesis. READ MORE
