  1. 21. Antibodies during pregnancy : Aspects on complications during pregnancy and complications related to transfusion

    Author : Miodrag Palfi; Olof Sjöberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Pregnancy; Thl; Th2; hernolytic disease of the newborn; anti-D; IgG subclasses; IgG transport; post-transfusion reactions; acute lung injury; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The fetus acquires half of its genetic infonnation from the father and represents a foreign graft in pregnancy. The overall mechanisms contributing to immunologic tolerance and successful pregancy still are an enigma. Accumulating results of immunologic research, however, offer an explanation for many events in pregnancy. READ MORE

  2. 22. Preoperative deposit of autologous blood. Effects on inflammatory mediators

    Author : Monica Hyllner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allogeneic; autologous; complement; cytokines; blood storage; erythropoiesis; hysterectomy; plasma; prestorage leucocyte filtration; rHuEPO; whole blood.;

    Abstract : Blood contains complex cascade systems and substances that can be activated during the processing of blood components and storage. Allogeneic blood, i.e. blood from someone else, is normally separated into components before storage and transfusion, while autologous blood (the patient s own blood) often is used as whole blood. 3. 23. On Quality Improvement in Gynaecological Cancer Surgery

    Author : Evelyn Serreyn Lundin; Preben Kjölhede; Ninnie Borendal Wodlin; Lena Nilsson; Ignace Vergote; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Objectives: The overall purpose of this thesis was to find medical and surgical treatment methods of improving the perioperative care of gynaecological cancer patients. The specific objectives were to determine whether a single dose tranexamic acid given immediately before surgery for presumed advanced ovarian cancer reduces perioperative blood loss and the need for blood transfusions, and to determine whether postoperative recovery, tissue damage, and inflammatory response markers differ between women operated with robotic and abdominal hysterectomy for low-risk endometrial cancer in an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programme, and to evaluate costs for hospital stay and postoperative recovery in relation to health impact. 4. 24. The Influence of Intrauterine Environment on Cardiovascular Development During Fetal Life

    Author : Helena Gardiner; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduktion; sexualitet; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; Obstetrics; gynaecology; arterial distensibility; twin-twin transfusion; Growth-restriction; Fetal; Cardiovascular Development; andrologi;

    Abstract : Fetal growth restriction has been linked to later cardiovascular disease, possibly through reduced arterial distensibility in response to a suboptimal intrauterine environment. This thesis sought firstly to examine the relationship between fetal growth and haemodynamics and their effect on later cardiovascular function and secondly to examine the effects of differential volume loading on arterial distensibility in genetically identical monochorionic twins with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and to explore the effect that early treatment has on vascular development. 5. 25. Erythropoiesis in anemia of rencl failure and malignancy : Studies on erythropoietin, iron, and transferrin receptor : by Soheir Beshara

    Author : Soheir Beshara; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; erythropoiesis; anemia; renal transplantation; prostatic adenocarcinoma; erythropoietin; transferrin receptor; hemorheology positron emission tomography; iron hydroxide sucrose; pharmacokinetics; iron deficiency; 52Fe; 59Fe; red cell utilization; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Erythropoietin (Epo) and iron are essential requirements for erythropoiesis. Serum transferrin receptor (S-TfR) is a marker of total erythropoiesis and tissue iron availability. In patients with renal insufficiency, successful renal transplantation leads to correction of anemia and improvement in erythropoiesis. READ MORE
