  1. 1. Accelerator-driven systems safety and kinetics

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Marcus Eriksson; KTH.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Nuclear physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The accelerator-driven system (ADS) is recognized as a promising system for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation and minimization of spent fuel radiotoxicity. The primary cause for this derives from its accelerator-driven, sub-critical operating state, which introduces beneficial safety-related features allowing for application of cores employing fuel systems containing pure transuranics or minor actinides, thereby offering increased incineration rate of waste products and minimal deployment of advanced (and expensive) partitioning and transmutation technologies. 2. 2. Development of Effective Algorithm for Coupled Thermal-Hydraulics – Neutron-Kinetics Analysis of Reactivity Transient

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Joanna Peltonen; KTH.; [2009]
    Keywords : Light Water Reactor; BWR; RELAP5; PARCS; Coupling TH NK; Mapping; Spatial Refinement; Turbine Trip; Feedwater Transient; Control Rod Drop; Reactor Stability;

    Abstract : Analyses of nuclear reactor safety have increasingly required coupling of full three dimensional neutron kinetics (NK) core models with system transient thermal-hydraulics (TH) codes. To produce results within a reasonable computing time, the coupled codes use different spatial description of the reactor core. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transient Phenomena in CO and Hydrocarbon Oxidation over Supported Platinum Catalysts

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Per-Anders Carlsson; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mean-field kinetics simulations; ignition; environmental heterogeneous catalysis; flow-reactor studies; periodic operation; extinction; low-temperature activity; transient methods; in situ spectroscopy;

    Abstract : The aim with this thesis work was to better understand transient phenomena involved in the low-temperature oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons by oxygen over typical oxidation catalysts. Supported platinum catalysts were prepared and carefully studied under transient conditions by means of flow-reactor experiments, different in situ spectroscopic (FTIR and XANES) methods in combination with mass spectrometry and mean-field kinetics simulations. 4. 4. Interactions of Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes with DNA

    University dissertation from Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Center, Lund University

    Author : Johan Kjellström; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; polyelectrolyte; medium effects; salt dependence; DSC; CD; HPLC; oligonucleotide; hairpin; DNA; anticancer active platinum II compounds; kinetics; mechanism; Oorganisk kemi; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : The kinetics and mechanism for interactions of the anticancer active platinum(II) complexes cis-[PtCl2(NH3)2)], cis-[PtCl2(NH3)(c-C6H11NH2)], and trans-[PtCl2-(NH3)(quinoline)] with DNA have been studied using a combination of HPLC, circular dichroism (CD), UV/vis spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Reactions of the monoaqua forms (charge = +1) of these complexes with single-stranded DNA oligonucleotides, typically between 13-17 bases long, were found to depend on i) the composition of the reaction medium, ii) the exact nature and location of the platination target, and iii) on the DNA structure. 5. 5. Effective Spatial Mapping for Coupled Code Analysis of Thermal–Hydraulics/Neutron–Kinetics of Boiling Water Reactors

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Joanna Peltonen; KTH.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boiling Water Reactor; RELAP5; TRACE; PARCS; Coupled TH NK analysis; Spatial Mapping; Turbine Trip; Feedwater Transient; Control Rod Drop; Reactor Stability; Hierarchical Clustering; kokvattenreaktor; reaktoranalys; RELAP5; TRACE; PARCS; TH NK analys; turbin tripp; matarvatten transient; fallande styrstav; reaktor stabilitet; hierarkisk klustringsmetodik; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : Analyses of nuclear reactor safety have increasingly required coupling of full three dimensional neutron kinetics (NK) core models with system transient thermal–hydraulics (TH) codes.  In order to produce results within a reasonable computing time, the coupled codes use two different spatial description of the reactor core.
