  3. 3. Accelerator-driven systems : safety and kinetics

    Author : Marcus Eriksson; Janne Wallenius; Hamid Aït Abderrrahim; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The accelerator-driven system (ADS) is recognized as a promising system for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation and minimization of spent fuel radiotoxicity. The primary cause for this derives from its accelerator-driven, sub-critical operating state, which introduces beneficial safety-related features allowing for application of cores employing fuel systems containing pure transuranics or minor actinides, thereby offering increased incineration rate of waste products and minimal deployment of advanced (and expensive) partitioning and transmutation technologies. 4. 4. Development of Effective Algorithm for Coupled Thermal-Hydraulics – Neutron-Kinetics Analysis of Reactivity Transient

    Author : Joanna Peltonen; Tomas Lefvert; Paolo Vinai; KTH; []
    Keywords : Light Water Reactor; BWR; RELAP5; PARCS; Coupling TH NK; Mapping; Spatial Refinement; Turbine Trip; Feedwater Transient; Control Rod Drop; Reactor Stability;

    Abstract : Analyses of nuclear reactor safety have increasingly required coupling of full three dimensional neutron kinetics (NK) core models with system transient thermal-hydraulics (TH) codes. To produce results within a reasonable computing time, the coupled codes use different spatial description of the reactor core. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transient Phenomena in CO and Hydrocarbon Oxidation over Supported Platinum Catalysts

    Author : Per-Anders Carlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mean-field kinetics simulations; ignition; environmental heterogeneous catalysis; flow-reactor studies; periodic operation; extinction; low-temperature activity; transient methods; in situ spectroscopy;

    Abstract : The aim with this thesis work was to better understand transient phenomena involved in the low-temperature oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons by oxygen over typical oxidation catalysts. Supported platinum catalysts were prepared and carefully studied under transient conditions by means of flow-reactor experiments, different in situ spectroscopic (FTIR and XANES) methods in combination with mass spectrometry and mean-field kinetics simulations.
