  1. 6. Interactions of Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes with DNA

    Author : Johan Kjellström; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; polyelectrolyte; medium effects; salt dependence; DSC; CD; HPLC; oligonucleotide; hairpin; DNA; anticancer active platinum II compounds; kinetics; mechanism; Oorganisk kemi; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : The kinetics and mechanism for interactions of the anticancer active platinum(II) complexes cis-[PtCl2(NH3)2)], cis-[PtCl2(NH3)(c-C6H11NH2)], and trans-[PtCl2-(NH3)(quinoline)] with DNA have been studied using a combination of HPLC, circular dichroism (CD), UV/vis spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Reactions of the monoaqua forms (charge = +1) of these complexes with single-stranded DNA oligonucleotides, typically between 13-17 bases long, were found to depend on i) the composition of the reaction medium, ii) the exact nature and location of the platination target, and iii) on the DNA structure. 2. 7. Effective Spatial Mapping for Coupled Code Analysis of Thermal–Hydraulics/Neutron–Kinetics of Boiling Water Reactors

    Author : Joanna Peltonen; Weimin Ma; Maria Avramova; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boiling Water Reactor; RELAP5; TRACE; PARCS; Coupled TH NK analysis; Spatial Mapping; Turbine Trip; Feedwater Transient; Control Rod Drop; Reactor Stability; Hierarchical Clustering; kokvattenreaktor; reaktoranalys; RELAP5; TRACE; PARCS; TH NK analys; turbin tripp; matarvatten transient; fallande styrstav; reaktor stabilitet; hierarkisk klustringsmetodik; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : Analyses of nuclear reactor safety have increasingly required coupling of full three dimensional neutron kinetics (NK) core models with system transient thermal–hydraulics (TH) codes.  In order to produce results within a reasonable computing time, the coupled codes use two different spatial description of the reactor core. 3. 8. Temporal Modulation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Imaging for Biological Applications

    Author : Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Jörg Enderlein; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; spectroscopy; microscopy; modulated excitation; intensity modulation; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; transient states; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the benefits of intensity modulation for the purpose of extending the range of applications of fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging in cellular and molecular biology and medicine. Long-lived transient states of fluorescent molecules can, because of their long lifetimes, be used to detect subtle changes in the microenvironment of the molecule. READ MORE

  4. 9. Investigations on the Physico-Chemical Phenomena during Induration of a Magnetite Pellet

    Author : T. K. Sandeep Kumar; Charlotte Andersson; Chris Pistorius; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetite pellet; Oxidation; Sintering; Optical Dilatometer; Kinetics; Modeling; Single Pellet; Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : In the era of globalization with increasing environmental awareness, sustainable utilization of the available resources is a necessity; iron ores are no exception. Pelletization, being one of the increasingly practiced agglomeration techniques for the iron ore fines as well as other solid wastes from steel plants. READ MORE

  5. 10. Kinetic Recognition of Nucleic Acids - Studies on the DNA Binding Selectivity of Threading Ruthenium Complexes

    Author : Pär Nordell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; intercalation; circular dicroism; ruthenium complexes; sequence selectivity; fluorescence; DNA; supercoiling; spectroscopy; kinetics;

    Abstract : Despite the great progress in our understanding of DNA during the past half-century, there are many important aspects of its chemical and biological role yet to be explored. The principles by which it selectively interacts with other molecules have attracted much interest due to the relevance for fundamental cellular processes, as well as for the development of diagnostic probes and effective pharmaceutical agents.
