  1. 1. Edge states and transition to turbulence in boundary layers

    Author : Taras Khapko; Dan Henningson; Philipp Schlatter; Yohann Duguet; Rich Kerswell; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer; transition to turbulence; direct numerical simulation; edge state; free-stream turbulence; bypass transition; probabilistic cellular automaton; turbulence at the onset; laminar–turbulent coexistence; laminarisation; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is the numerical study of subcritical transition to turbulence in boundary-layer flows. For the most part, boundary layers with uniform suction are considered. Constant homogeneous suction counteracts the spatial growth of the boundary layer, rendering the flow parallel. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ports in Transition in Countries in Transition - The changing situation for ports in Russia and the Baltic states in times of geopolitical and economical transition

    Author : Alf Brodin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Port; transition; Baltic Sea; transport geography; geopolitics; Russia; Baltic states; former Soviet Union; trade statistics; entrepôt; trade relations;

    Abstract : Ports in Transition in Countries in Transition - The changing situation for ports in Russia and the Baltic states in times of geopolitical and economical transition. Edited by the Department of Human and Economic Geography, University of Göteborg. CHOROS 2000:1. 254 pages. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transition to turbulence in the asymptotic suction boundary layer

    Author : Taras Khapko; Dan Henningson; Philipp Schlatter; Yohann Duguet; Marc Avila; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layers; instability; laminar-turbulent transition; dynamical systems; edge states; near-wall turbulence; laminarisation;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is on the numerical study of subcritical transition to turbulence in the asymptotic suction boundary layer (ASBL). Applying constant homogeneous suction prevents the spatial growth of the boundary layer, granting access to the asymptotic dynamics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Reactivity of Transition-Metal Compounds from Electronic Structure

    Author : Aleksandra Vojvodic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic edge states; electronic structure; density-functional theory; growth; surface states and resonances; nitrides; density of states; hydrodesulphurisation; sulphides; steam reforming; transition-metal carbides; Bronsted-Evans Polanyi relation; scaling relations; adsorption; descriptor; reactivity; catalysis;

    Abstract : Transition-metal carbides (TMC's), nitrides, and sulfides belong to the class of materials known as transition-metal compounds (TMX's). Besides having intriguing properties, these materials are relevant for, e.g., growth and catalysis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Energy Use, Efficiency Gains and Emission Abatement in Transitional Industrialised Economies: Poland and the Baltic States

    Author : Jürgen Salay; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; implementation; sustainable energy; renewable energy; electricity production; power industry; Baltic states; Poland; transition; sulphur dioxide; air pollution; energy efficiency; Energy; energy use; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Energy research; Energiforskning;

    Abstract : This thesis is a study of how energy use and air pollution in Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have been affected by the economic transition after 1989. It consists of six articles, which examine three different aspects of these changes. READ MORE
