1. Evolutionary Mechanisms Shaping Bacterial Translation Termination
Abstract : Translation termination in bacteria involves precise reading of stop codons (UAA, UAG, UGA) and coordinated peptidyl-tRNA hydrolysis by the class-I release factors (RFs) on the ribosome (70S). This thesis investigates the evolutionary and post-translational modification mechanisms of these RFs and the concurrent effect on bacterial translation termination. READ MORE

2. Studies on Translation Initiation and Termination in Escherichia coli
Abstract : Translation initiation factor 1 (IF1) has been shown to be an RNA chaperone. In order to find functional interactions that IF1 may have with rRNA, we have isolated second-site suppressors of a cold-sensitive IF1 mutant. READ MORE

3. Accuracy of protein synthesis and its tuning by mRNA modifications
Abstract : The ribosome is a large macromolecular complex that synthesizes all proteins in the cell in all kingdoms of life. Proteins perform many vital functions, ranging from catalysis of biochemical reactions to muscle movement. It is essential for cells and organisms that proteins are synthesized rapidly and accurately. READ MORE

4. Computational Studies of Protein Synthesis on the Ribosome and Ligand Binding to Riboswitches
Abstract : The ribosome is a macromolecular machine that produces proteins in all kingdoms of life. The proteins, in turn, control the biochemical processes within the cell. It is thus of extreme importance that the machine that makes the proteins works with high precision. READ MORE

5. The Mechanism of translation termination in Escherichia coli
Abstract : Protein synthesis in E. coli is terminated by the release factors (RFs) and the ribosome is prepared for another round of protein synthesis by ribosome recycling factor (RRF), elongation factor G (EF-G) and initiation factor (IF3). READ MORE
