  1. 11. Prehistoric human impact on wild mammalian populations in Scandinavia

    Author : Hans Ahlgren; Kerstin Lidén; Anders Angerbjörn; Anders Götherström; Gørill Nilsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; hunter-gatherers; Baltic Sea; Mesolithic period; grey seal; harp seal; mountain hare; moose; ancient DNA; hunting; translocation; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to study the interactions of pre-agricultural societies in Scandinavia with wild mammals, for example in terms of hunting and translocation. More specifically, the aim is to investigate the possibility of identifying examples of overexploitation, targeted hunting or translocation of wild mammals in prehistoric Scandinavia, and to discuss the implications this could have had for both the wild animals and the humans. 2. 12. Metal accumulation by plants : evaluation of the use of plants in stormwater treatment

    Author : Åsa Fritioff; Maria Greger; Lena Kautsky; Bert Wolterbeek; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elodea canadensis; Potamogeton natans; uptake; translocation; distribution; toxicity; salinity; temperature; and leakage; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Metal contaminated stormwater, i.e. surface runoff in urban areas, can be treated in percolation systems, ponds, or wetlands to prevent the release of metals into receiving waters. Plants in such systems can, for example, attenuate water flow, bind sediment, and directly accumulate metals. READ MORE

  3. 13. Twin-arginine translocation in Yersinia : the substrates and their role in virulence

    Author : Ummehan Avican; Åke Forsberg; Åsa Sjöling; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Pathogenic Yersinia cause a manifold of diseases in humans ranging from mild gastroenteritis (Y. pseudotuberculosis and Y. enterocolitica) to pneumonic and bubonic plague (Y. READ MORE

  4. 14. Role of the Yersinia protein YopK in microbe-host interactions

    Author : Sara Thorslund; Maria Fällman; James Bliska; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yersinia; YopK; T3SS; antiphagocytosis; neutrophil; translocation; virulence; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : There are three human pathogenic species of the genus Yersiniae: Yersinia pestis, Yersinia enterocolitica, and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. To cause disease, these strains inhibit several key innate defense mechanisms, including phagocytosis, the critical process for bacterial clearance. READ MORE

  5. 15. Solid-state nanopores : fabrication and applications

    Author : Shuangshuang Zeng; Zhen Zhang; Amit Meller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : solid-state nanopore; truncated-pyramidal nanopore; nanopore array; pore size reduction; individual addressability; microfluidics; translocation.; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektronik; Engineering Science with specialization in Electronics;

    Abstract : Nanopores are of great interest in study of DNA sequencing, protein profiling and power generation. Among them, solid-state nanopores show obvious advantages over their biological counterparts in terms of high chemical stability and reusability as well as compatibility with the existing CMOS fabrication techniques.
