  1. 11. Valley-Polarized Charge Transport in Diamond

    Author : Nattakarn Suntornwipat; Jan Isberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CVD diamond; valleytronics; Negative Differential Mobility; NDM; electron polarization; Time-of-Flight; ToF; magnetotransport; carrier transport; drift velocity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : Diamond is a wide bandgap semiconductor with extreme properties such as high thermal conductivity, high breakdown field and high carrier mobilities. These properties together with the possibility to synthesize high purity Single-Crystalline (SC) diamond by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), makes it a really interesting material for electronic devices. 2. 12. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene

    Author : Martin Evaldsson; Igor Zozoulenko; Vidar Gudmundsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electronic transport; Spin related phenomena; Quantum dots; Quantum wires; Two-dimensional electron gas; 2DEG; Graphene; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. READ MORE

  3. 13. Blood-Brain Barrier Transport : Investigation of Active Efflux using Positron Emission Tomography and Modelling Studies

    Author : Stina Syvänen; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Mats Bergström; Gunnar Blomquist; Jashvant Unadkat; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutical biosciences; pharmacokinetics; P-glycoprotein; blood-brain barrier; modelling; PET; active efflux; species differences; [11C]verapamil; drug development; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the transport of exogenous molecules across the blood-brain barrier (BBB), focusing on active efflux, using positron emission tomography (PET), computer simulation and modelling. P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibition was studied using [11C]verapamil and [11C]hydroxyurea was investigated as a new marker for active efflux transport. READ MORE

  4. 14. Numerical study of transport phenomena in particle suspensions

    Author : Mehdi Niazi Ardekani; Luca Brandt; Gianluca Iaccarino; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Suspensions of solid particles in a viscous liquid are of scientific and technological interest in a wide range of applications. Sediment transport in estuaries, blood flow in the human body, pyroclastic flows from volcanos and pulp fibers in papermaking are among the examples. READ MORE

  5. 15. Mass Transport in Apple Tissue: Effects of Tissue Structure and Osmotic Processing Conditions

    Author : Nikolaos Mavroudis; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; drying; porosity; shrinkage; cell vitality; apple structure; apple; osmotic processing; mass transport; mass transport mechanisms;

    Abstract : Osmotic processing can be a very useful processing step in today’s food industry enabling the production of high quality natural food ingredients out of plant tissues. The maintenance of high product quality is quite product specific with regard to quality attributes. These attributes include fresh/like appearance, taste, texture and composition. READ MORE
