  1. 16. Comparative treatment planning in external radiotherapy of malignant tumours : Potential gains using protons

    Author : Ulf Isacsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Breast cancer; comparative treatment; Ewing sarcoma; oesophageal cancer; protontherapy; radiotherapy; rectal cancer; treatment planning algorithms; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : It is well known that protons have physical characteristics superior to conventional radiation qualities in external beam radiotherapy. The primary aim of this work is to determine if the physical advantages also may lead to clinical advantages. READ MORE

  2. 17. Advances in Microwave Hyperthermia Treatment using Time Reversal

    Author : Hana Dobsicek Trefna; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microwave hyperthermia; time reversal; microwave thermometry; annular phased array; amplifier system; treatment planning;

    Abstract : The last twenty years have seen many clinical studies showing the ability of hyperthermia to remarkably enhance response to radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The objective of hyperthermia treatment is to raise the temperature in tumors to therapeutic levels, for a sufficient period of time, in order to achieve cell death or render the cells more sensitive to ionizing radiation and/or chemotherapy. 3. 18. Contouring & planning variability in stereotactic radiosurgery : How to assess and address the weakest link in stereotactic radiosurgery?

    Author : Helena Sandström; Iuliana Toma-Dasu; David Schlesinger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stereotactic radiosurgery; contouring variability; robust treatment planning; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Abstract : The use of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) employing one or a few fractions of high doses of radiation has continuously increased due to the technical development in dose delivery and morphological and functional imaging. As the target volume in SRS is usually defined without margins, the treatment success critically depends on accurate definition and contouring of the target volume and organs at risk (OARs) which are commonly situated in the proximity of the target making their precise delineation particularly important in order to limit possible normal tissue complications. 4. 19. On the reporting of dental health, time for dental care, and the treatment panorama : Methodological studies of measuring and analysing dental care outcomes within a Swedish Public Dental Service organization

    Author : Smedberg Yngve; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; public health dentistry; public dental service; program assessment; program planning; dental health surveys; components of quality; costs; economy; treatment time; dental clinic effectiveness; dental clinic efficiency; dental care outcome; time series analysis; sustainable development;

    Abstract : The thesis included five methodological studies and one caries epidemiological investigation, the general aim being to study how to measure and report dental health, time for dental care, treatment panorama, and dental care outcomes, within a Public Dental Service organization. The specific aims were to monitor dental clinic activities using a time study method, to apply time study results of a dental health-related patient group system for the 3-19 year age groups, and to compare time study results with corresponding results from computerized systems used for reporting dental care. 5. 20. Estimating qualities and quantities of faecal sludge to determine resource recovery potential : A case study in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

    Author : Chea Eliyan; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : A paradigm shift to convert faecal sludge into resources could minimise environmental pollution and public health risks in cities in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). To support faecal sludge management planning at city scale, this thesis investigated resource recovery potential from faecal sludge, using Phnom Penh as a case and focusing on waterborne systems.
