  1. 1. Trees of Knowledge : Science and the Shape of Genealogy

    Author : Petter Hellström; H. Otto Sibum; Jenny Beckman; Hanna Hodacs; John Tresch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; cultural history of science; science and metaphor; science and visual representation; family trees; tree diagrams; information management; classification; natural history; philology; music theory; genealogy; evolution; secularisation; Enlightenment; French Revolution; Augustin Augier 1758–1825 ; Félix Gallet 1773–c. 1840 47 ; Henri Montan Berton 1767–1844 .; History of Sciences and Ideas; Idé- och lärdomshistoria;

    Abstract : This study investigates early employments of family trees in the modern sciences, in order to historicise their iconic status and now established uses, notably in evolutionary biology and linguistics. Moving beyond disciplinary accounts to consider the wider cultural background, it examines how early uses within the sciences transformed family trees as a format of visual representation, as well as the meanings invested in them. 2. 2. The Holocene Spread of Spruce in Scandinavia

    Author : Thomas Giesecke; Keith Bennett; Richard Bradshaw; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quaternary geology; Picea abies; pollen analyses; tree migration; population dynamics; Kvartärgeologi; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : The Holocene spread of Picea abies in Scandinavia provides an excellent opportunity for detailed study of the dynamics of tree spread and population expansion. Early- and mid-Holocene macrofossil evidence for the presence of Picea abies in Scandinavia has questioned traditional interpretations of the timing and direction of its spread. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Chirality-Flow Formalism and Optimising Scattering Amplitudes

    Author : Andrew Lifson; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spinor-helicity formalism; Chirality-flow formalism; Helicity amplitudes; Standard Model; QED; QCD; Optimisations; Colour expansion; Phenomenology; Fysicumarkivet A:2023:Lifson;

    Abstract : This thesis is composed of five papers, which all attempt to optimise calculations of scattering amplitudes in high-energy-physics collisions. These scattering amplitudes are a key part of theoretical predictions for particle-physics experiments like the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. READ MORE

  4. 4. Next-generation Molecular Systematics and Evolution: insights into Medicago

    Author : Filipe de Sousa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phylogeny; incomplete lineage sorting; paralogy; hybridisation; Medicago;

    Abstract : Evolutionary relationships among species have in recent years been inferred using DNA sequences from specific genes and represented by tree diagrams (phylogenies). However, the signal contained in different genes can produce conflicting sets of relationships – i.e., gene tree incongruence. READ MORE

  5. 5. Testing and Proving in Dependent Type Theory

    Author : Qiao Haiyan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : We show how random testing, model checking and interactive proving can be combined for functional program verification in dependent type theory. We extend the proof assistant Agda/Alfa for dependent type theory with a tool for random testing of functional programs, thus combining proving and testing in one system. READ MORE
