  1. 1. Novel factors affecting clearance of triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins from blood

    Author : Stefan K Nilsson; Gunilla Olivecrona; Aivar Lookene; Ko Willems van Dijk; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipoprotein; triacylglycerol; apolipoprotein A-V; ANGPTL; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Apolipoprotein (apo) A-V is the most recently discovered member of a protein family responsible for the structure and metabolic fate of plasma lipoproteins. While most of the apolipoproteins are well characterized with regard to structure, interactions and function, the role of apoA-V is not well understood. READ MORE

  2. 2. ALPHA-LINOLENIC ACID Postprandial Lipid Metabolism and Enzymatic Interesterification of Triacylgylcerols

    Author : Julia Svensson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alpha-linolenic acid; triacylglycerol; postprandial lipemia; Lipozyme TL IM; interesterification;

    Abstract : An important indicator of the metabolic capacity of humans is the ability to regulate plasma triacylglycerol levels and to clear triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) from the circulation after a meal. This is crucial since most of the day is spent in the postprandial state. READ MORE

  3. 3. Carbohydrate-Rich Foods in the Treatment of the Insulin Resistance Syndrome : Studies of the Importance of the Glycaemic Index and Dietary Fibre

    Author : Anette Järvi; Gabriele Riccardi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; diabetes; insulin resistance; carbohydrates; starch; glycaemic index; dietary fibre; postprandial; second-meal; glucose; insulin; triacylglycerol; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Abstract : The glycaemic responses to various carbohydrate-rich foods are partly dependent on the rate at which the carbohydrate is digested and absorbed. The glycaemic index (GI) is a way of ranking foods according to their glycaemic response and is recommended as a useful tool in identifying starch-rich foods that give the most favourable glycaemic response. 4. 4. Lipid Turnover in Plants and Yeast, A Study of Storage Lipid Synthesis and Lipid-Based Signalling in Plants and Yeast

    Author : Maria Gustavsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; turnover; plasma membrane; plant; PLA2; biosynthesis; S. cerevisiae; triacylglycerol;

    Abstract : In this thesis, lipid biosynthesis is discussed focussing on the genes and enzymes involved in the final step of storage lipid synthesis, on the enzyme phospholipase A2, and on cell membrane lipid homeostasis. The investigation of lipid metabolism revealed that in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, there are four genes that are essential for the final step of storage lipid biosynthesis; ARE1, ARE2, DGA1, and LRO1.
