  1. 1. Lubrication mechanism of hydrocarbon-mimicking ionic liquids

    Author : Erik Nyberg; Ichiro Minami; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; P-SiSO; boundary film; silicate; friction; wear; anti-wear; friction modifier; base fluid; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Lubrication is critical in order to achieve high efficiency and reliability of machine elements such as gears, bearings, and other moving mechanical assemblies (MMA). In space applications, tribological properties of lubricants are quickly growing more important. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cam Roller Contact : Surfaces and Tribology

    Author : Frédéric Cabanettes; Bengt-Göran Rosén; Ulf Olofsson; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wear reduction; camshaft; roller; surface topography; relocation; elasto plastic rough contact; elasto hydrodynamic lubrication; Mechanical engineering; Maskinteknik;

    Abstract : The automotive industry and the design of engines are strongly ruled by performance and legislation demands. In the valve train, mechanical components such as camshafts and rollers are defined by specifications including more and more constraints concerning their ability to face wear thus prolonging lifetime. 3. 3. Hot forming tribology : galling of tools and associated problems

    Author : Leonardo Pelcastre; Ewald Badisch; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements; Centrumbildning - Centrum för högpresterande stål CHS ; Centre - Centre for High Performance Steel CHS ;

    Abstract : In recent years, the use of ultra high-strength steels (UHSS) as structural reinforcements and in energy-absorbing systems in automobiles has increased rapidly; mainly in view of their favourable strength to weight ratios. However, due to their high strength, the formability of UHSS is poor, thus complex-shaped UHSS components are invariably produced through hot-metal forming processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. The influence of microstructure on mechanical and tribological properties of lamellar and compacted irons in engine applications

    Author : Rohollah Ghasemi; Anders E. W. Jarfors; Ricardo César Dommarco; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cast iron; Si solution-strengthened CGI; microstructure; mechanical properties; modelling and simulation; tribology; abrasive wear; scratch testing;

    Abstract : Lamellar graphite iron (LGI) is commonly used in diesel engine applications such as piston rings–cylinder liner where an excellent combination of physical and tribological properties is essential to avoid scuffing and bore polishing issues. The excellent tribological behaviour of LGI alloys is related to the graphite lamellas, which act as solid lubricant agents by feeding onto the tribosurfaces under sliding conditions. READ MORE

  5. 5. High Temperature Wear Processes

    Author : Sinuhe Hernandez; Bojan Podgornik; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Moving machine assemblies are increasingly exposed to extreme operating conditions involving high temperatures owing to demands on higher power densities, high performance/efficiency and extreme environments. The changes in surface and near surface properties of contacting surfaces caused by exposure to high temperature and deformation govern the occurrence of friction, wear and material transfer of the tribological system.
