6. The role of the serotonergic system and the effects of antidepressants during brain development examined using in vivo PET imaging and in vitro receptor binding
Abstract : Serotonin (5-HT) and the serotonergic system, which includes the serotonin transporter (SERT) and the two G protein-coupled 5-HT1A and 5-HT1B receptors, are implicated in the pathophysiology and treatment of several neuropsychiatric disorders including major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety. Two classes of antidepressants—selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which block SERT, and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), which block several monoamine transporters—alter 5-HT levels and modulate the serotonergic system. 9. Immobilized stationary phases for capillary gas chromatography
Abstract : Capillary gas chromatography columns coated with silicone gums as stationary phases proved to have a higher thermal stability than columns coated with silicone oils. The temperature stability of a stationary phase film can, however, be further increased when the phase is, in situ, immobilized either by polymerization of the silicone or by freeradical cross-linking. 10. PET studies of the serotonin system in major depression and its treatment
Abstract : The serotonin system has been implicated in major depression since the 1960s, mainly based on the serotonin enhancing properties of antidepressants. Positron emission tomography, PET, is the in vivo molecular imaging method with the best spatial resolution. READ MORE
