  1. 1. Growth of developing visual neurites in vitro : trophic support and guiding substrata

    Author : Néstor Gabriel Carri; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  2. 2. Regional differences in the response of neural stem cells and their microenvironment to ionizing radiation

    Author : Nina Hellström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ionizing radiation; neurogenesis; neural stem cells; inflammation; microglia; stem cell niche; trophic support;

    Abstract : Radiation therapy is one of the most effective tools for treating malignant tumors; however, cranial irradiation often results in intellectual impairment and cognitive deficits, such as impaired learning and memory. Ionizing radiation generates DNA damage, causing proliferative cells to undergo apoptosis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Trophic factors, neuroprotection and spinal cord repair

    Author : Johan Widenfalk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : spinal cord injury; GDNF; GFRalpha; neurotrophin; VEGF; olfactory ensheathing glia; weight-drop injury; in situ hybridization;

    Abstract : Background: There is no cure for paralysis. The only drug therapy presently in use, acute high-dose methylprednisolone, has only modest effects on outcome. There is therefore a great need for new therapies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Trophic complexity of zooplankton–cyanobacteria interactions in the Baltic Sea : Insights from molecular diet analysis

    Author : Nisha H. Motwani; Elena Gorokhova; Jakob Walve; Catherine Legrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bloom-forming filamentous cyanobacteria; diazotrophs; picocyanobacteria; zooplankton; grazing; molecular diet analysis; stable isotopes; biochemical indices; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Blooms of nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria (NFC) occur in many freshwater and marine systems, including the Baltic Sea. By fixing dissolved nitrogen, they circumvent general summer nitrogen limitation, while also generating a supply of novel bioavailable nitrogen for non-diazotrophic primary producers and ultimately supporting secondary production. 5. 5. Managing green infrastructures : trophic interactions in anthropogenic and natural ecosystems

    Author : Michael Manton; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The term green infrastructure addresses the spatial structure of anthropogenic, semi-natural and natural areas, as well as other environmental features which enable society to benefit from ecosystems’ multiple services. Focusing on two green infrastructures, anthropogenic wet meadows and natural forest successions, this thesis applies a macro-ecological approach based on comparisons of multiple landscapes as complex social-ecological systems.
