  1. 16. Reconstruction of the Southeast Asian hydro-climate using biomarkers and their hydrogen isotopic composition

    Author : Yamoah Kweku Kyei Afrifa; Rienk Smittenberg; Barbara Wohlfarth; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Abstract : Southeast Asia is characterized by a monsoonal climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. This has great impact on societies, agriculture and infrastructures. READ MORE

  2. 17. Atmospheric dynamics and the hydrologic cycle in warm climates

    Author : Henrik Carlson; Rodrigo Caballero; Johan Nilsson; Jonathan L. Mitchell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; superrotation; early Eocene; warm climates; Madden-Julian Oscillation; the hydrologic cycle; vegetation sensitivity; large-scale circulation; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Past warm climates represent one extreme of Earth's known climate states. Here, we study warm climates in both idealized simulations and full-complexity general circulation model (GCM) simulations of the early Eocene epoch, approximately 50 million years ago. READ MORE

  3. 18. Impacts and drivers of insect herbivory on element cycling in forests globally

    Author : Bernice Hwang; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biogeochemical cycling; folivory; insect cadavers; insect frass; insect herbivory; litter decomposition; nutrient cycling; carbon; nitrogen; phosphorus; silicon; silica;

    Abstract : The effects of insect herbivores on forest functioning are not well understood even though they can have important impacts on ecosystem processes by intercepting foliage before resorption and depositing nutrient-rich materials to the soil. In this thesis, I investigated the impact and drivers of insect folivores on carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and silica (Si) cycling in broadleaf forests, and how this varies with major climate variables. 4. 19. Patterns of fish larvae and zooplankton distribution in mangrove-seagrass seascapes of East Africa

    Author : Barnabas Alphonce Tarimo; Martin Gullström; Monika Winder; Mats Björk; Gunilla Rosenqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fish larvae; zooplankton; population dynamics; community structure; environmental variables; seasonal variation; habitat use; mangroves; seagrass meadows; seascape connectivity; Tanzania; western Indian Ocean; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Abstract : Mangroves and seagrass meadows create coastal seascapes acting as breeding and nursery grounds for many fish species in tropical areas. Despite increased awareness on the role of these coastal habitats to fish, less knowledge is given to fish larvae distribution and population dynamics, limiting the understanding of major drivers of fish population dynamics and fisheries resources management, particularly in understudied regions such as the Western Indian Ocean. 5. 20. Latent Heat Thermal Energy Storage for Indoor Comfort Control

    Author : NingWei Justin Chiu; Viktoria Martin; Motoi Yamaha; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal Energy Storage; Phase Change Material; Indoor Comfort; Heat Transfer; Termisk Energilagring; Fasändringsmaterial; Inomhuskomfort; Värmeöverföring;

    Abstract : Equating Earth’s existence to 24 hours, we, the Homo sapiens, came about in the last four seconds. Fossil fuel came to our knowledge with mass extraction dating from the Industrial Revolution two centuries ago, in other words 4 milliseconds out of Earth’s 24-hour equivalent lifetime. READ MORE
