  1. 1. The origin and fate of sediment organic carbon in tropical reservoirs

    Author : Anastasija Isidorova; Sebastian Sobek; Rafael Marcé; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; methane; carbon burial; tropical reservoirs; sediment; carbon cycle; limnology; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Abstract : Recently, the construction of reservoirs has boomed, particularly in the tropics, but the impact of reservoirs on the global carbon cycle is not evident. Reservoirs accumulate sediments that simultaneously bury organic carbon (OC) and thus act as a C sink, and also produce methane (CH4) and thus emit a strong greenhouse gas. READ MORE

  2. 2. Greenhouse gas emission from tropical reservoirs : Spatial and temporal dynamics

    Author : Annika Linkhorst; Sebastian Sobek; Frédéric Guérin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; methane; carbon dioxide; climate; carbon cycle; lake; limnology; inland water;

    Abstract : The emission of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from reservoirs has been estimated to make up for about 1.3% of the global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission. The impoundment of a river leads to the accumulation of sediment that is brought in from inflowing rivers, and the sediment organic matter is degraded to CH4 and CO2. READ MORE

  3. 3. Immunity and immunological surveillance for malaria elimination in tropical islands

    Author : Zulkarnain Md Idris; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Malaria remains one of the most significant global public health challenges. Nearly half of the world’s population remains at risk, largely in African Region. In the past decade, considerable progress has been made in the global fight to control and eliminate malaria. READ MORE

  4. 4. Diurnal variation of stratospheric short-lived species

    Author : Maryam Khosravi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chlorine monoxide; short-lived species; Arctic ClO; diurnal variation; tropical middle stratosphere; Arctic stratosphere;

    Abstract : Diurnal variation of stratospheric short-lived speciesMaryam KhosraviChalmers University of TechnologyDepartment of Earth and Space SciencesAbstractThe depletion of ozone in the stratosphere has a direct impact on the amount of ultravioletradiation reaching the Earth’s surface. The ozone abundance and distributionis controlled by the photo-chemical reactions and catalytic cycles involving halogens(chlorine and bromine), odd hydrogen and odd nitrogen species as well as by atmospherictransport. 5. 5. An epidemiological and virological study on mosquito-borne flavivirus transmission : The role of urban livestock keeping and the risk for mosquito-borne zoonotic diseases in humans in Hanoi city, Vietnam

    Author : Thang Nguyen-Tien; Johanna Lindahl; Åke Lundkvist; Richard Paul; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : urban flavivirus; mosquito-borne diseases; livestock keeping; urban Vietnam; Southeast Asia.; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs), which are transmitted by the bite of mosquitoes to humans, are causing high morbidity and mortality worldwide and are emerging in many tropical cities. Urban livestock keeping is still growing in cities around the world, which can itself contribute to increasing the mosquito populations. READ MORE
