  1. 1. EMG and strength in trunk and hip muscles

    Author : Eva A Andersson; Alf Thorstensson; Margareta Nordin; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurophysiology; Neurofysiologi; abdominal muscles; biomechanics; electromyography; erector spinae; iliacus; iliopsoas; hip flexor muscles; locomotion; motor control; normalization; posture; psoas; quadratus lumborum; rehabilitation; running; sit-ups; strength; training exercises; u;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to study the myouelectric activity of all major muscles involved in the movements and stabilization of the trunk, pelvis and hips during training exercises, postures, motor tasks, maximal strength performance and locomotion. By use of ultra-sound, EMG electrodes could be guided safely and accurately into muscles situated even close to the spinal column, such as psoas, quadratus lumborum and deep parts of erector spinae. 2. 2. Spinal mobility, muscle strength and function in patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Different aspects on long term outcome

    Author : Karin Romberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; idiopathic scoliosis; long-term outcome; spinal mobility; trunk muscle endurance; back function; thoracic mobility; pulmonary function; validity;

    Abstract : Introduction: The long-term physical function outcome in patients treated for idiopathic scoliosis (IS) during childhood and adolescence has not been fully explored. In addition, there is a lack of studies where different methods to measure pulmonary function are validated in patients with early onset scoliosis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Altered body composition in adults with complex congenital heart disease

    Abstract : Introduction: Thanks to achievements in paediatric heart surgery and medicine, the population of adults with surgically repaired or palliated congenital heart defects is growing. Many of these adults have reduced exercise capacity, weaker muscular strength and shorter height, all of which suggest an altered body composition. READ MORE

  4. 4. Physical performance, pain and pool exercise in individuals with late effects of polio

    Author : Carin Willén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Post-polio syndrome; pain; muscle strength; walking capacity; dynamic exercise in water;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of the studies was to obtain knowledge about physical performance and related factors in individuals with late effects of polio. The specific aims were to provide a description of pain and how it is related to the effects of polio and the physical activity of the individual; to evaluate physical performance, the effect of reduced muscle strength on walking performance, and to study the impact of pool exercise.     Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mental retardation; postural stability; muscle strength; balance perturbation; aerobic capacity; young adults;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate postural balance, physical activity, physical capacity and their associations in young people (16-20 years) with intellectual disability (ID), mild to moderate. The aim was also to study the reliability and concurrent validity of postural balance tests. READ MORE
