  1. 1. Renal dysfunction in orthopaedic surgery - with special reference to drug effects in the elderly

    Author : Görel Nergelius; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; protein HC; IgG; albumin; pharmacokinetics; diclofenac; clearance; elderly; penicillin; isoxazolyl; tubular; glomerular; arthroplasty; exercise; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Total hip replacement (THR) is a common procedure, generally performed in elderly persons. Previous studies indicated that the use of isoxazolyl penicillins could induce a transient post-operative renal dysfunction in these patients. READ MORE

  2. 2. Endogenous proteins as markers of glomerular function and dysfunction

    Author : Jan Tencer; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glomerular filter; amyloidosis; glomerulonephritis; glomerular disease; proteins; proteinuria; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Plasma and urine concentrations of endogenous proteins are frequently used in the diagnosis of kidney diseases and in studies of glomerular filter function. The main issues addressed in these studies were: storage of urine samples for subsequent protein analysis, use of protein concentrations in urine and in plasma in health and as markers of glomerular diseases, and the application of renal plasma-to-urine clearance of endogenous proteins in estimating the size-selectivity properties of the glomerular capillary wall. 3. 3. Affective disorders and their treatments : implications for thyroid function

    Author : Ingrid Lieber; Ursula Werneke; Michael Ott; Mats Eliasson; John McGrath; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bipolar disorder; affective disorder; lithium; thyroid dysfunction; hyperthyroidism; hypothyroidism; Delphi-consensus; psykiatri; Psychiatry;

    Abstract : BackgroundThe relationship between affective disorders, mood-stabilisers and thyroid dysfunction is complex and poorly understood. Symptoms of thyroid dysfunction can overlap with symptoms of affective disorder, destabilise mood, and impact physical health. READ MORE

  4. 4. Renal disease in primary Sjögren's syndrome

    Author : Per Eriksson; Ulla Backman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is characterised by inflammation in the lacrimal and salivary glands. The kidneys may be involved, e.g. tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN) and distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA). READ MORE

    Abstract : Apoptosis is one of the most common types of cell death. Under physiological conditions, it plays an essential role in removal of damaged and potentially harmful cells. Excessive apoptosis has however been linked to a number of diseases including proteinuric kidney disease and DKD, and is believed to enhance the disease progression. READ MORE
