  1. 21. Functional role of neural cell adhesion molecule in tumorigenesis and beta-cell function

    Author : Xiaojie Xian; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : N-CAM; pericytes; endothelial; tumor; PDGF-B; RipTag; ECM; exocytosis;

    Abstract : Cancer metastasis is the main lethal cause for cancer patients today. It has been demonstrated that angiogenesis is crucial for growth of both primary tumors and metastasis. READ MORE

  2. 22. Cooperativity between MYC and other oncogenic factors : implications for tumorigenesis and targeting of MYC

    Author : Siti Mariam Zakaria; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Normal cell homeostasis in a tissue requires a delicate balance between cell growth, maintenance and death, tightly controlled by an intricate interplay between proto-oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. When the balance is tipped due to genetic or epigenetic lesions in such genes, diseases such as cancer may arise. READ MORE

  3. 23. From a candidate region to gene characterization : analysis of three new genes with respect to meningioma tumorigenesis

    Author : Myriam Peyrard; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : meningioma; central nervous system; monosomy 22; tumor suppressor gene; ADTBI BAM22 gene; clathrin-coated vesicles; adaptin; assembly protein;

    Abstract : Meningioma is a common and usually benign tumor arising from the meninges covering the central nervous system (CNS). The yearly incidence of symptomatic meningiomas is 1.2 cases per 100 000 individuals but autopsy findings reveal an occurrence ten times higher. READ MORE

  4. 24. FET fusion oncoproteins in sarcoma tumorigenesis - lnteractions with the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex and epigenetic effects

    Author : Malin Lindén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ewing sarcoma; Epigenetics; FET fusion oncoproteins; Myxoid liposarcoma; Proteomics; SWI SNF BAF chromatin remodeling complex;

    Abstract : The FET family of fusion oncoproteins containing the N-terminal of either FUS, EWSR1 or TAF15 together with a transcription factor partner is the characteristic oncogenic driver of more than 20 types of sarcoma and leukemia, including myxoid liposarcoma and Ewing sarcoma. The FET oncoproteins are thought to function as aberrant transcription factors, however, the exact oncogenic mechanism remains to be elucidated. READ MORE

  5. 25. The antagonistic role of activated oncogenes and apoptosis : studies of n-myc and p53 in lymphoid tumorigenesis

    Author : Yisong Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MPC; EmyN-myc transgene; J3D T Iymphoma cells; p53; v-m y cretrovirus; bcl-2; Gl cell cycle arrest; apoptosis; HPV 16 E7;

    Abstract : Inactivation of the p53 tumor suppressor gene and activation of proto-oncogenes have been implicated in the initiation and/or progression of a number of neoplasms. In this thesis, the involvement of N-myc gene activation has been studied in mouse plasmacytomagenesis and the role of wild-type (wt)p53 and oncogene activation has been evaluated with particular emphasis on apoptosis.
