  1. 6. Mangafodipir trisodium (MnDPDP)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the liver and pancreas

    Author : Chen Wang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Liver; pancreas; neoplasms; metastases; endocrine tumor; MR imaging; contrast medium; mangafodipir trisodium; MnDPDP; manganese; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; diagnostisk radiologi; Diagnostic Radiology;

    Abstract : Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the liver and pancreas is frequently performed to improve the sensitivity and specificity of lesion detection in these organs. The concept of using tissue-specific contrast media is to selectively enhance the normal parenchyma, but not lesions, so that the contrast between tumorous and normal tissue is increased, and lesion detectability improved. 2. 7. Cholangiocarcinoma in primary sclerosing cholangitis

    Author : Annika Bergquist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Primary sclerosing cholangitis; pancreatic carcinoma; cholangiocarcinoma; ulcerative colitis; biliary dysplasia; apoptosis; Ki-67; p53; bcl-2.;

    Abstract : Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease of unknown causes closely associated with ulcerative colitis. PSC is a progressive disease leading to liver failure and need for liver transplantation. Cholangiocarcinoma (CC) occurs in 10-20% of patients with PSC. READ MORE

  3. 8. Brain Tumor Imaging and Treatment Effects. Imaging findings and cognitive function in glioblastoma patients

    Author : Anna Rydelius; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma; Imaging finding; Quantitative volumetry; Cognitive function; Diffusion tensor imaging DTI ; Treatment effect; Radiotherapy; VMAT; Parametric response maps PRM ; Treatment responce prediction;

    Abstract : AbstractBackground: Glioblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumor. Operation with maximal resection, if feasible, otherwise biopsy followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy with temozolomide is standard therapy. The prognosis remains poor, with median overall survival being 15 months despite therapy. READ MORE

  4. 9. Oxidative stress in cell and tissue damage and selenium-based therapeutics in cancer

    Author : Rim Jawad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Redox homeostasis is the balance between cellular prooxidants and antioxidants, maintained by the interplay of electrons. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a term for molecules with unpaired valence electrons or unstable bonds. READ MORE

  5. 10. Molecular aspects of parathyroid tumorigenesis : with focus on parafibromin and the Wnt pathway

    Author : Christofer Juhlin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) denotes the tumorous enlargement of one or several parathyroid glands and constitutes a common disorder, particularly pronounced among postmenopausal women. PHPT patients display hypercalcemia as a consequence of parathyroid hormone hypersecretion, and the symptomatology is habitually based on this metabolic aberrancy. READ MORE
