1. Tunable Filters based on Ferroelectrics and Semiconductor Varactors
Abstract : Experimental investigation and development of tunable microwave filters, based on single crystals of SrTiO3 (STO) and KTaO3 (KTO), form the main work of this thesis. The dielectric properties of STO and KTO crystals are evaluated experimentally for a wide temperature range, with a DC bias, using parallel-plate resonators with High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) and normal metal (Cu) electrodes. 3. High Temperature Superconducting and Tunable Ferroelectric Microwave Devices
Abstract : This thesis addresses some applications of High Temperature Superconductors (HTS) and ferroelectric materials in tunable microwave devices and circuits. The work is divided into three main areas: i) modeling of multilayered structures including ferroelectric layers, ii) realization and characterization of tunable coplanar waveguides (CPW), capacitors and resonators based on ferroelectrics, and iii) an investigation of microstrip HTS K-band filters. 4. Measurement and Control of Attosecond Light Fields
Abstract : Attosecond pulses are used to study electron dynamics in atoms and molecules. In this thesis, schemes to control the generation of attosecond pulses and pulse-shaping techniques to compress the pulses are presented. Generation of attosecond pulses requires high intensity, which is reached by focusing a pulsed femtosecond laser. READ MORE
